I'd like to try Castrol 0w40 instead of Mobil and Pennzoil Euro oils but Castrol never seem to have any rebates.

Can anybody recall seeing Castrol rebates or do I need to go with $25 at Walmart if I want this oil?

I believe AAP has 5 quarts plus K&N filter for $32.99, which might be comparable to the Walmart price if you factor in the oil filter.

I can confirm this because I just got this deal earlier today.

Only BOGO I remember is when it first came to AAPs.
I hoarded enough for about 3 OC's back then.

Local Walmart didn't have it last time, but gonna check again. (they had a shelf dedicated to it - all gone).
Didn't know AAP has big jugs, too - gonna check that soon.
I really don't want the K/N filter though...

Now that the 0/40 is also a GC, I might settle on BC/GC 0/40 for colder months, and PUE 5w40 for hotter months...

If you aren't in a hurry, check to see if Autozone is having a "Buy 5quarts get a filter" sale, because it might include a different brand filter than K&N. I think the last time I used that sale, I ended up with a Bosch filter, but I am not 100% sure.

Why don't you like the K&N oil filter? I can't see any weakness to the K&N oil filters, the air filters are a different story.

As for 0w40 in winter and 5w40 in summer, I don't see the point. I have a hard time believing that with a premium synthetic, that 5w40 will have signficantly less NOACK and shear than 0w40.

Thanks for the AZ tip.

You may be right, the 0 vs 5w is probably a mental thing...esp. in NC it probably doesn't make a difference..

I have decided (for peace of mind) to stick with OEM Mahle or Mann filter and that's why I won't use anything else in the bimmer - doesn't mean I think K&N is bad, but just out of habit I'd like to stick to Mann/Mahle filters.
