Want to give amsoil a try on my next oil change.Would it be safe to run in my hm 5.3? Got 227k on the clock and it uses the normal quart every 3k.. Stop and go traffic and my drive to work is only 15 minutes.

Definitely sounds like a waste of money.

I agree with the response of a possible 10w40 hm if you were itching to try a different oil.

Pennzoil High Mileage or M1 High Mileage 10w40 is what Id go with.

I'd skip the Amsoil and go with something like Mobil 1 10W-40 HM. But Amsoil won't hurt anything unless if leaks a lot, in which case it will hurt your driveway...

I'm in a similar boat with my Jeep, 5.9 Grand with 280K miles.

I was running a 15w40, but after thinking about the motor not leaking nor burning significant amounts of oil, I'm giving Castrol Edge HM 5w30 a shot.

If the Jeep was burning a quart every 3K, I'd just stick with 10w40 Synthetic blends, like Valvoline MaxLife or Pennzoil HM.

You may get a small leak or seepage switching to Amsoil (or any synthetic) at that mileage, but if the seals are good the leak should stop in 2-3000 miles. I'd do it, worth a look.

Awesome; if it didn't leak with Mobil1, then it should be good with the Amsoil.
