I've probably installed a half a dozen or more Remy products and they've held up good so far. The ones I've used were new and Chinese-built. I've tried a few TYC new alternators/starters and had some problems, one was a costly repair that happened to my son who happened to be about 5 hours away from me.

The Denso remanufactured alternators also have a good reputation. While I like to save money and am a satisfied Rock Auto customer, it seems like that buying a remanufactured alternator locally makes more sense (assuming it costs the same or only slightly more).

I replaced my 02 Ranger (2.3D) alternator with a new OEM Motorcraft when it reached 150,000 miles even though the original still worked fine. It cost less than a remanufactured one from Rock Auto and there was no core charge. Now I do not have to worry about it failing, and even if it does, I still have the original. It is not easy to get out on the 2.3D and I ended up removing the fans to gain access. This was five years and 60,000 miles ago, no problems with the new unit. IMHO the parts houses mark up the prices of the remanufactured alternators too much, I only buy new now.
