I believe that is Purolator too.

IIRC, it is just a classic with a different bypass and the Chrysler name. I have one on my Jeep that I am going to cut open when my 5000 miles is up.

they used to be Purolator, but they switched over to Wix in the last year or 2.

My brother has a Similar Challenger(2013 R/T Blacktop). the Mopar filter wasn't carried @ his local wally world(but i've seen the it in wally's around here), so we did some cross checking, and it crosses to a Motorcraft FL-820s (which he already had several on hand for his Mustangs)

and yes, the Motorcraft filters ARE made by Purolator, but I don't recall seeing /reading about tears in them... (though i could be wrong)

I was under the impression that the Canadian Mopar filters were made by WIX while the US Mopars are Purolator.

again, in the past, yes, they were. but the evidence i've seen w/ my own eyes suggests that the US ones are wix now.
what is said evidence?
Complete(non scientific) external examination of a wix Filter i had laying around for my neon, and a mopar filter for said neon i picked up at a local wally world.
the only differences i could find (besides the Wix sticker,& Mopar painted logo, etc) was that the Wix had a(red) Silicone ABDV, while the Mopar was (black) Nitrile.
looked identical down the hole, the paint stripe markings on the gasket were identical, same baseplate. I didn't do a dissection to examine the innards, and I no longer have said filters, gave them away when i sold the Neon.

but hey, form your own conclusions, go to your local parts store, and examine them for yourself.

Try Baldwin/Hastings or Donaldson.

Just good reliable filters.

They're not trying to skimp on their quality to meet the Chinese/Asian competition.

if you are Running an FL-400s on that Jeep 4.0 (I understand many do) the Equivalents to check to see if you can come to the same "mopar filters now wix" conclusion I have, are as follows:
Motorcraft: fl-400s
Mopar: MO-452
Wix: 51516
Purolator: L20195

I was running the FL-400s pretty much exclusively on the 4.0 till I stumbled on the Napa Silvers while experimenting.

Like bullwinkle said, the PH8A, PH16 and PH3600 (Fl-400s) equivalents all work well.

Hello, Sorry for the vagueness of this post but, ...Didn't Toyota oil filters boast a folded design which in no way resembled the familiar "single layered accordion pleat"? I remember seeing cut-a-ways at the dealership. They were called "hex-fold" or something...?

Anyway, they seemed to offer a backstop to the rips we're seeing in recent posts.

However, I am not afraid to buy filters now. It'll be a WIX, Hastings, MANN for me. Kira

From what I have gathered with my own conclucsions is that the larger filters, excluding the Cummins filters, with threaded end bypass' are still purolator made. The smaller Mopar filters are made by WIX.. which explains how you came to your conclusion with the Neon filter. A good way to tell is to see what color the ADBV is. If its red, its WIX.

In my situation, the MO-090 is identical to the Purolator L14670 excluding the bypass and paint job.

Love Baldwin Filters, always look for them on the road at truck stops while out and about. They are built like little tanks and serve my OCI of 4000-5000 miles perfectly

For 4000-5000 miles FCI, I'll still gladly use Purolator,PureOne or Classic, with imminent media tear and 2000-3000 miles worth dirt collected on the shelves at K-Mart

I hope this is sarcasm

I think one issue in the market is that no one really pays for an oil filter anymore.

I have 7 or 8 filters right now that I got "free" in an oil change deal.

The oil filter manufacturers have to be feeling a lot of pressure to be a part of the next "deal."

Baldwin/Hastings and Donaldson don't sell their filters in that market so they are somewhat immune to that pressure.

IDK if oil filter manufacturers have anything to do with oil deals or coupons at the parts stores. But both of my filters I have in stash or in the vehicles now have been acquired for significantly cheap.

I used Purolator in my vehicles last year and have not had a problem,I might have gotten lucky.I'm really intrigued to try filters I have never used before like Mahle,MANN,Ultra,M1,Bosch and OEM like Hyundai. But I doubt I will pay full price for any of them so long as I can get filters like K&N,Microgard,Wix,ACDelco for peanuts.

I asked a while back on if it anyone has returned their Purolator filters. I returned my Bosch (P1 twin) back to Oreilly's yesterday. The old geezer chuckled at my reasoning. I offered to show him some Google results on my phone, but I think mobile online browsing was too high tech for him to even look at. He couldnt figure out the computer so he began to hit the keys harder and harder..

I received a WIX 51085 in its place.

There you go!

I can identify with you though... I took a filter back once cause it would not seal on the "blow test" no matter what I did. Man I got a strange look.

returned 2 Puro Classics to Walmart and picked up 2 Fram Ultras.

All these filter tears now, everywhere I go I see cars on the side of the road, engines exploded and smoking.....very sad. Perfectly good cars that used to last 500,000 miles are now wearing out at 490,000 miles with the massive flow of unfiltered oil getting past torn media. It's a jungle out there, don't even think about sleeping tonight.

So are you going to start/ continue to use Purolator filters then?
