Just asking as I have a stash of Redline 5W40 (SM)
and a few additives from the shop :
1)
X1R engine additve
(EP, mostly chlorinated parrafins and a boron anti-oxidant/TBN )

2)Militec-1
super expensive stuff

3)Redline Break-in (AW/EP, mostly ZDDP, i can get the PPM per ML)

assuming I have the ciscosity correct,

What I wanna ask is what and who much stuff should I add to
1 QT of Redline 5W40 to make it into:

1) a GL-5 equivalent Gear oil

2) a full syn fork oil for older damper rod style shocks that has good anti-froth properties and service life

Additive experts do chime in!
Any additive not listed is also welcomed to ge added(with a reason too)

PS. I do not have access to good quality Gear oil/ Fork oil hence the need to do it via home chemist style...

I'd love to see an answer. Good luck getting it right and not ruining costly equipment in the process.

There are a few guys who will be able to answer this question. I do not know if they post here anymore.

As for the challenge at hand, I can only suggest that if you're planning to make a homebrew fork oil for a motorcycle, well you're insane. I'm sure you could mail order a quart for $20.

Buying a dedicated fork/shock oil in whatever viscosity is really worth considering.

the viscosity is just nice, within range.

Its old damper rod style forks, not cartridge USD forks.

None of the additives are suitable for either Gear Oil or Fork oil.

There is more to a lubricating fluid than viscosity.

You need the correct amount of the correct type of additves to make a specific fluid for a specific application.

Ok saw your info and thought you were in the UK.

Regardless, Molakule is one of those people I was talking about. If he says it's a no-go, it's a no-go.

what about the most well compromised solution beside getting dedicated fork oil? The factory fill for said bikes are ATF btw...
way too thin for optimal damping but does a god job at anti foaming?

For fork oil you need a hefty dose of anti-foam and ATF doesn't have it.

ATF is a compromise fork oil.
