I just changed my oil yesterday with PPPP & a AC Delco PF 46 oil filter. Its not the PF 46E. I was driving to work this morning & noticed that my oil pressure is running pretty high. I got on to the highway & when I push the gas & get up to 65 mph I see my oil pressure get extremely high. I've used the AC Delco for the last couple of oil changes & never noticed this before. It's also running high at normal speeds on the road. Is this possibly a bad PF 46 or am I over reacting to this problem?

Resistance to flow causes high oil pressure. I'd swap that filter out ASAP and see if it goes back to normal (I'm assuming you're using the correct viscosity oil). You could have a defective filter that is restricting flow and this could be very bad.

Yeah I am assuming I answered my own question but I feel that you are right in the problems are in the filter. I am using 5w30 PPPP so I know its not the oil. I was wondering since I have 210,000 miles if there would be any other issues that might cause it. Could it be the oil pressure sensor is bad & needs replaced?

If you have the 5.3l, the sensors are flaky. I had to replace mine, and so have a lot of others with the 5.3l. Make sure you get a lifetime warranty if you get the sensor, it will fail again.

Are the PF 46 E filters any better or are they completely worthless. I've heard the E core is supposed to be improved & those that say only the original PF 46 is the only filter to use.

Not unusual for the oil pressure sending unit to have issues on that era truck, I believe they just peg out though rather than read a bit higher. At your mileage hot idle is 26-30psi or so on an LS engine. And by hot I mean after running for 20 minutes, it takes the oil alot longer to warm up than the coolant. I would buy a different filter and compare.

The Delco filters are not PSI increasers

I used to be outspoken against them but in reality they are just fine. GM claims the inner cage offers higher flow, 25% higher collapse strength, and a redesigned compression spring bypass valve instead of the leaf spring. My Jeep uses a completely plastic cartridge filter and does just fine, so no reason this wouldn't either. I used them (PF63E) on my wife's truck. And for the price, you can't beat it.

Go Pokes, BTW!!!

afaik, only too low of an oil pressure is to be feared.

Damage to seals/gaskets.

Low oil pressure compared to what? what was the other oil filter/oil combo you are comparing your current oil pressure to? I had a noticeable drop in oil pressure going from my regular T6 to T5 10W-30 in my LX450.

The filters were both Toyota OEM in my case.

I just changed the oil in my truck from penz old ultra 5w30 syn w a non ecore delco pf61 to a penz syn blend 10w30 w a pf61 ecore oil filter. Oil pressure appears to be the same before and after oil change. I have over 185k miles on the truck
