I have a Total Grip on my truck and am approaching 5k miles. With the M1 5w30 I was thinking I could extend to 6k (more perhaps?) I believe the oil could handle it, but I am leary of leaving the filter much longer. Come the 22nd this month time will be 7 months on oil & filter. Truck is no longer under warranty. Almost 41k miles and no probs so far.

Those are very good filters, probably the same as the ProLine from Pep Boys, just a tad below the Premium Plus/Classic. I've ran a ProLine a number of times without issue. I'd say you're safe going at least 5k on one. You said you're planning on 6k+, and I'm sure that it could handle it.

As I recall those are simply rebadged Purolator filters, with perhaps a tad less media?

I would not hesitiate to do 5-6k miles, but I don't know that I'd push way past that. 6k miles is likely safe. 7.5k miles might be pushing it, depending upon how much crud your particular engine and driving pattern tend to produce.

From my findings yes.

I miss them terribly. Used to be able to get the grippy-red AAP filters for about $2; talk about a screaming deal for a 5k mile OCI!

Can only "order" AAP filters now at my local store, and there's no price incentive to do so anymore.

AA still has (maybe?) puro powerflo filters, meant for quick lubes. $1.99 for the 20195 that crosses to the 3600/FL400s, and the oversize 3614 I run. These are exactly the same as comparable pep boys cheapies. edit: River rat has a nice post on this very filter.

I was stocking up on a bunch with the 10/25 coupon last fall, and the guy said he was going to stop carrying them soon. IDK if he was just trying to get rid of a cheap customer or...

I've always wondered about Ford's huge filters. Engineering bodge to compensate for lots of filth generated, or genius to compensate for extreme toughness and duty?
