A plea to the board/mods/Vetteman

Mr. Andrews (not his real name) took a leave of absence from the Board. I told him to stop ranting at other members. I sent him an email and this is his reply:

Good for you. And thanks for taking all day to reply....you're a real pro, and kiss my ***. Oh, and by the way, at least three other members that contribute tons of good information, feel that your site is run like **** also. Give (members name deleted by me) my middle finger too.

This site is about automotive lubricants, additives, and auto related things. Frankly, I found many of the political views that used to be expressed here outrageous, as I am sure that my views outraged others.

Take politics elsewhere.

The problem with a polital forums is some people are very adimant in their views (on both sides) and take everything said contrary to their belief as a personal attack. Also many see religion and politics as interconnected. They both go back to core beliefs.
Many are able to have civil discussions on it with no problems at all, it is just that 3-5% that cause trouble for everyone.

My personal opinion on this, there are tons of political forums out there, go there for discussion. It is nice to have a place to go where I don't have to worry about politics.

In my experience, it is impossible to have civilized discourse on the Internet about politics or religion. This site is such an attractive resource for information and entertainment. Please do not allow it to be ruined by political thrashes.

Beter yet. Create a completely separate board for politics and religion for BITOG members with a separate log-in so no one else will run across it unless they choose to.

That way only people interested in political and religous posts will have to put up with them. It's a pretty safe prediction that without a large audiance the religous and political posters will lose interest and that part of the board will be largely unused.

That would require more work from the good people running BITOG now, so the only fair thing would be for the people who want religion and politics on the board to volunteer to run it.

The problem is people take politics and such too personal and hold a grudge and no longer look at other posters the same... We are all here with similar interest.

There are tons of political boards and I participate in a few. When I come to BITOG it is nice to have a forum pure of the anger and the grudge matches that develop after Politics, sexuality or religion is discussed, especially in our current climate... it is unavoidable that it would be poison here. Yep..
