Getting the windows tinted soon.
Want to stay legal so front side is limited to 35%.

Any pics of sedan with 20% rear and 35% front?,
And 35% all around?
My car is a 2010 Avalon.
I plan on using ceramic tint with a IR heat rejection of 75+ %.

Thanks for your input.

Here is 30% all around.

Yeah, it really depends on how the sun is hitting it and where you are looking from. In my opinion it looks better to have the front and rear doors the same percentage. 30-35% all around would be my recommendation.

A car I just bought has 5% in the back but had nothing on the front windows. It looked like someone peeled it off, probably got a ticket from a cop for being too dark.

Just had them tinted on the front to 35%, our max legal darkness on the front windows. I kind of wish I went 20% anyways, but it’s good enough.

So I’d recommend 35% front, 20% rear. I did that with my ‘96 Jeep years ago and my Tesla.

I find the “less is more” approach has been good for me. To dark and night vision, parking, manuevering suffers. I also don’t like feeling I’m in an isolated box. A light tent with good heat rejection has been more enjoyable here than a moderate or dark tint.

I like 20% all around. It's what I have in both of my cars, but if you want to stay legal I'd definitely go 35% front, 20% rear. I have had cars this way that was tinted at the dealer before purchase and it's a good blend. I personally feel 35% front is more of a light appearance mod and doesn't do much to cut light, but it will cut heat if it's ceramic tint. There's really no point in doing tint if you don't go ceramic though.

Remember that the factory glass has some smoke to it already. Somewhere between 70-90% so whatever film percentage you apply it will actually measure darker.

I’d personally go with 35% with a high quality film. Llumar IRX or 3M Crystalline come to mind. You won’t be disappointed.

Have you driven a car with tint before?
Yes, the Mercedes I just sold (03 CLK tagtop) had crappy tint. Optical clarity was poor, the tint had been on for a long time before I bought it. Hated it at night. But much of that was likely due to old, low quality tint.

So AZ law is 33% VLT, front side windows. According to installer, factory glass plus 35% film = ~32-33% give or take. Close enough to legal with the variance in meters, it is within the margin of error.

I do like the 20% in the day, but 35% at night sounds manageable.

Wish they had electrochromatic auto dimming windows, or photochromic like the eyeglasses.

I do like the privacy,
Coming from 20% in the CLK to almost nothing in the Toyota, I feel like I am on display driving down the road, trying to remember to keep my hands at the 10 & 2 position on the steering wheel, keep my mouth closed, (no face stretches) no itching the nose, good posture, oh, the stress of being on display!🤣🤣

In some cities, the tinting amount you are about to do is illegal. I got busted in downtown Cleveland about ten years ago with less than 35% in the front. I had to remove it or pay a fine, appeared in court to prove I removed the tinting and lost a half day's work. I also trashed my rear window defogger in the process.

If you get stopped, tell the officer the tinting came with the car as new.

That happened to me many years ago in Oregon.

In Arizona, legal to no tint is the minority. Most people have 20% or darker.
that's why I feel like I'm on display without tint. Like a fish in a fishbowl,

Got the tint installed today. The installer is a Llumar dealer. So they I stalled the Pinnacle 30. 88% heat rejection and I think 30% VLT. I was amazed at how much less heat comes through the window. My northbound end of day commute puts the sun beating on me through the driver's side window. The new tint works exceptionally well at blocking the radiant heat.

Tank you all for your responses. I didn't want to drop $450+ without getting info from others who have gone down this road.

Again, I appreciate the info and pictures.

I kinda wanted darker, but my wife will use the car to travel, and she is tint-averse. So this was a good compromise.

But the ceramic heat rejection is phenomenal.

Tintdude dot com if it's still around shows tons of vehicles with different styles and shades of tint

Looks good. The angles and cloud cover change how it looks also. My Accord has the 30 or 35 Ceramic all around and the heat rejection is great. Wife's Pilot and daughter's CRV have the same on the front windows. Rears have factory which is about 20%. The 30 ceramic blocks more heat than the factory 20 on rear. The one big thing I added was a 5% strip on all the vehicles. Makes it so you almost never need the visors. It's cut to match factory roof line so it does NOT drop a lot on the sides. Wife didn't like it when we first got it feeling claustrophobic, after a day or two you don't even notice until it's NOT there. Had the windshield replaced and tint shop was closed for a week. She drove it on a longer trip and complained multiple times about the glare from front and how soon was it getting redone. On her Pilot I first used static cling dot matrix to see how far down. Had that about a year. Not as good as the 5% strip because sun coming through dots but better than none.

NY tint law is 70% so nothing on drivers or passengers windows. Sedans can't have anything on rear sides or rear either. if your vehicle says MPV on data plate like factory SUV/CUV/Wagon you can paint the rear side windows and back glass if you want if you have side mirrors (like a work van). I think front strip OK to AS1 line on either. I have a tint exemption from Doctor/DMV for photosensitivity so could do whatever. Coworker did 20% on his whole windshield for his wife's migraine issues. Can't see S#*T at night driving. Not for me.

Have you driven a car with tint before? At night you will have to roll down the windows to back up. Not fun in the rain, not that you have much of that.
I see this statement a lot but I’ve been driving with 5% all the way around except the windshield for 18 years and I can count on one hand the times I’ve rolled down a window because I didn’t have enough visibility.

Edit to add: at the same time, I can’t imagine having any tint on the front windshield. I want every bit of visibility I can out the front but then I do a lot of driving at night so I don’t judge others when they tint the front because perhaps their situation is different than mine.

I like it on my Ford F-150 however I wouldn't want it on my C7 Corvette. It looks and works great in some applications. It's more difficult to see at night with tinted windows and rear windows. Be carefull at night.
