Well guys, I did it.
For a couple months now I've thought of going back to VW as 50th birthday present to me. This marquee has always held a special place with me since it was the brand o grew up with. The only vehicle I was currently interested in was the Passat.

Today I passed by the nearest dealership and they had a couple demos available. I bit.

It's the 2.0T with a 6spd AT.
VW 508 0W-20 is expressly required, according to the service department.
87 oct is recommended but I'll us 93.

Sportage was traded in.

Nice grab. How does it compare with the Sportage? My sister has a Tiggy with the non-'budack' 2.0T, 60K KMs so far, so good.

@wemay

Nice choice! These are really underrated vehicles in my book. Also contrary to what most people claim about VW most of their vehicles are very close to being as
reliable as any other make, even the best. I'm not a big fan of the vinyl seating though, I think yours is leather seating surfaces...I prefer cloth personally but as usual
VWoA doesn't want to offer it except on very limited US models.

Is that a Canadian spec model? Notice that the oil sticker only mentions vw.ca not vw.com.

The sticker has the VW.com address on the lower left, VW.CA on the lower right

Next May. Lol, but thanks.

Great choice! (I am admittedly biased.)

I found your story very similar to mine. I grew up as a kid riding around in my dad's VW's, learned to drive on a VW, my first few cars were VW's...and like you I got away from them but I came back last year. Now I have two, the brand is like an old friend.

Very fun, well built cars. Also like you, the Passat was too much to resist.

The 2019 still gets the insanely good warranty, I am enjoying having that although I have not needed it. Going straight by the VW schedule, dealer OCI's at 10k.

Congrats.

I do like that steering wheel shape.

The front looks like a tank. Not a good look for a German car

Be careful with those parking bumpers. Sometimes you clear them going in, but when you get back to your car and put it in reverse, the front can dip a little and scrape.

Nice treat for 50. Why would you run Premium if the engine works with 87 octane? avoiding ethanol? will the engine reward more power if you use Premium?

Congrats!

How did you get away with buying two new cars for yourself without replacing your wife's aging Santa Fe?
