Does anyone know if the 2017 Nissan Frontier SV 4.0 4x2 has a LSD or open differential?

Also, does it matter if it does have an LSD, I don't use a gear lube with friction modifier in it?

Sorry if this is a stupid question. I have been searching the Frontier forum and was unable to find a clear answer. It seems most of them have 4x4 models and it's obviously different for them.

Your Frontier uses a C200 rear axle. This axle is used in both the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder Frontiers with automatic transmission or 5-speed manual transmission. This axle does not incorporate limited-slip technology and would be classified as an open axle. The traction control for these vehicles employs the braking system to stop one wheel from spinning in order to direct power to the other wheel.

The recommended fluid for this axle is API GL-5 in viscosity grade of 75W-90.

Thank you FowVay!!! This is what I was looking for.

I even called the service dept and the advisor had no clue..smh

Anyone have a favorite flavor of gear oil? I've always done either Valvoline or Amsoil.

I ran Supertech and Valvoline gear fluid in my 2016 Frontier with no issue or cause for concern. They are not picky and whatever your favorite flavor of GL-5 rated gear oil will be fine in it.

I use Mobil Delvac1 Gear Oil 75W-90 and change it at 50,000 mile intervals. The capacity is small (approx. 1.75 quarts) and that is why I change it at this interval.

Any gear oil that carries API GL-5 and SAE J2360 ratings in the proper viscosity grade is going to be fine. Brand isn't that much of an issue in my opinion.

Thanks you two.

Does the Amsoil have the proper ratings? Or does it "meet" the requirements of said ratings? I have a difficult time deciphering the verbiage of some of these boutique manufacturers.

i have 2016 frontier V6 auto trans. the sudo posi system is......... in a word FLAKY. i turn it off ALL the time. from what i can find out there is NO real posi for the frontier. i want my 413 / 727 back , with a REAL posi.

Redline for sure!! replacing ALL differential fluids in my new to me 28 thou 2011 frontier SV 4wd netted me 3 MPG's or so, 75-90 in the Dana rear as Dana recommends real synthetic, not overpriced semi-syn OE lube!!
