A friend of mine has a 2015 Tacoma with the V6. His job requires him to drive a lot, and puts on around 30-40k miles per year. We are considering the Mobil 1 annual protection with a Fram ultra and his goal is a 6 month OCI with no more than 20k per OCI. We are going to perform a UOA also before we do this, which I will gladly post here. We will also do a UOA on the extended OCI oil. He keeps taking his ride to quick lube places and is sick of taking it in every 5k Miles, which does not take long for him to accrue.

Does anyone have anything pertinent to bring up that would point in the direction of this being a bad idea. We are not against doing more frequent OCI's, but just want to extend them as long as we safely can.

I'd get a UOA at 10K miles, via extraction, and base the OCI on the results.

My buddy drives 50-60K miles a year for work, insanity imo, but that's another story. He runs 10K OCIs using Mobil 1 regular flavor and has been doing so for about 18 years now. He will not go over 10K on an OCI no matter what.

We would be very willing to take a sample to be sure that the oil is holding up okay. In fact we may just change it for the first go around at 10k

Depends on how many miles the truck has now.
Secondly a quick lube place every 5k?
I can only imagine how that drain plug is going to look.
Good Luck

I think right around ~80k. And yes he has been getting the oil changed that frequently. Just doing his best to take care of his truck.

Install a Fumoto Valve for quick drain ,greese driveshafts 5 locations will still need to be done, rotate tires.
Some stuff stlii need to be done.
I have a 2013 Tacoma 4x4 auto and do oil changes every 6 mo. But its a time not mileage that drives that maintaince

M1 AP has never impressed me in any aspect. Amsoil Signature Series is one of the best long OCI oils, so that's what I recommend. He should become a preferred customer since it will save him money. Another cheaper option is Castrol Edge 0W-40 which is also good for long OCIs but its HTHS viscosity is a bit higher than ideal from a fuel economy perspective. It probably wouldn't even be a measurable difference though.

The AP is only 40 bucks at Walmart, the Amsoil is pricey. Why are you unimpressed with it?

Just don't do 10k OCI blindly please, watch the fuel dilution. how much is he idling?
End of the day, oil is cheap, buy the cheapest syn oil and 7k OCI without having to sweat is what I stick to.

I don't know how much he's idling but he does so many long highway trips I know the oil regularly reaches operating temp and stays there for hours

I'm unimpressed by M1 AP based on VOAs/UOAs, the product data sheet, and the engine photographs shown by XOM that showed a visible increase in deposits.

I would be concerned with it sticking down too low ( especially on a low slung car ) and getting damaged / knocked off ?

If it is a 4wd the front driveline would protect a fumoto valve from getting knocked off. Plus it sounds like this guys drives all HWY anyway.

I had 30 or 40 changes at my local Valvoline over the years, same drain plug with no issues.
