Taking the wifes car (200k ) in for the pre-trade in detailing job tomorrow. There is a Ford dealer next door and just by chance they have 2 2014 Red Mustang coupes one with the 5.0L and one with the V6. No way I am getting her the 5.0 because she would wrap it around a tree. But I am wondering about the v6 I believe it is a 3.7L? How is this engine with the 6 speed auto trans?

Does anyone know?

It makes more horsepower than the outgoing V6 and 4.6 V8.

But! Everyone says the engine lacks low end torque and really needs to wind up to get going.

Reliable engine.

IMO anything with over 300 BHP on the street is beyond adequate, but my perception of what is and is not fast was shaped in the '90's. For me, anything beyond that much horsepower in a street car basically means that your car has a lot of wasted power, because most aren't going to use it all on a consistent basis out of fears of safety and traffic laws.

I like the V-6 Mustang, but my problem with it is the hard cap on its top speed. I know they want the car to be as inexpensive as possible, but it just doesn't seem like a driveshaft that can be spun at a higher RPM would cost more money.

You'd have said the same thing back in 1992. "No way would I get her the 5.0 because she'll wrap it around a tree."

The current V-6 has 75 more horsepower than that 302 and outruns a 302 Mustang (stock).

Just some perspective.

Don't like it, esp with the auto trans. Big heavy, deep, cavelike, pigmobile. This is from a guy that's owner more than 6 mustang V8, even a hopped up mustang II cobra with 275 HP and 4 speed (better chassis than the FOX platform by FAR for handing - not talking about juvenile drag racing.

Yeah, but I have to wonder how much tire technology and electronic nannies have changed things.

the strippers can be had cheaply, if you think is 18-20k is cheap. i personally hate the seat posture and lack of visibility.

I like the V6 with the manual; the automatic, not so much. The V6 isn't a bad car, but you never hear GT owners saying, "I sure wish I had bought a V6 instead."

Its too bad the 'Stang isn't still sold like it was back in the 80s, whereas you could get all of the same go fast goodies that came on the GT in a less expensive LX package...

The V6 with the Performance Package is a very nice vehicle. Quick, reasonbly nimble, good handling and seems to be priced right. There are numerous road tests that back my statements up. Video below (and there are so many others as well as magazine road tests) where the V6 runs with cars like the BMW 328i and new Subie. Not claiming it is a "better" car. Just posting info to contradict a previous posted unsubstantiated view (as usual) about the V6 Mustang

The leftovers are probably very, very aggressively incentivized.

I always figured Ford never put a boosted V6 in the Mustang because they didn't want to have a V6 car outrun the 8.

The new boosted V6 in the CTS is good for over 400hp, no reason Ford can't crank up theirs a bit.

V6 will still be entry level in 2015, However there will be a 2.3 Ecoboost I-4 mid level choice that probably will be popular with the tuning crowd.

I rent the V6 Mustang all the time. Here is my impression:

1) It's absolutely gutless unless your foot is on the floor, at which point it takes an incredibly annoying 2-3 seconds to downshift 4 gears and then takes off.
2) It is programmed to upshift into a high gear at light speed. So when pulling into traffic, it's in 3rd before you complete the 90 degree, right hand turn. Leaving you no choice but to floor it, and wait. Very annoying.
3) It falls flat going up hills, and won't pull 70 up a long, gentle hill. So the speed drops off to 63, Then it downshifts 2 gears and zooms up to 80, only to repeat the cycle.

There is nothing wrong with the engine, or the transmission. They are well made. However the programming is ABSOLUTELY INTOLERABLE.

Manual shifting does not help much, as the transmission is still slow to respond.

Get the V8.

The 2012 Mustang in my sig is fast enough for me. You should drive one first.

My wife averages 26 to 31 mpg in this one and in the 49k miles she has put on it......no problems what so ever.
