I am planning on ordering several oil filters soon for the new V6 Mustang. The price on the newer Motorcraft filter (FL500S) is around $10 at my local dealer. Found better price on the internet. Now I am undecided between the following 2 filters: The Motorcraft, or the WIX 57502. Both are similar in price the Motorcraft @ $4.79, and the Wix @ $4.78 at different sites.

Which of these would be preferred? Length that both would be good for as Ford calls for up to a 7,500 OCI.

First American car I have bought new. Previous cars were 1 Honda and 3 Toyotas.

Feel like I got my $$ worth on the Mustang.

Doesn't Walmart sell the Motorcraft for less than $5? I thought they did.

Enjoy the car! Ford builds great stuff.

Every time I order a bunch of filters or oil in advance for maintenance, someone totals my car and i end up with unusable stuff lying around. I rec U Order 2-3 filters MAX and put the balance money in the stock market

To answer your question - how can you go wrong with the factory OEM motorcfraft? Wix should be good to0. Maybe order a couple of each and tell us how they compare - its not an all or nut'in dealio :)

Soobs, Wally doesn't stock the FL500S.

troyh: although WIX is an excellent filter, I'm a firm believer in using OEM during the warranty period, so Motorcraft FTW!

It would be really nice if these Motorcraft filters were stocked at WalMart. Leaves me with dealer prices if I want to buy locally. With the internet site I found, they are priced at $4.79 but with UPS shipping may as well buy a case as shipping is the same.

I have read these are both pretty good filters, so might not even matter which I get.

I have always been a WIX/Napa Gold fan, and never bought Motorcraft anything. Then again, never drove a Ford.

Motorcraft filters, in MY opinion, are overrated. Everyone says they're the best bang-for-the-buck out there, but in order to get the best price, you gotta go to Wally World, which I will not do. Once I find them at the auto stores, the cost is more than buying Napa Gold filters from fleetfilter.com delivered. Also, the cans on the Motorcraft filters just seem a little flimsy compared to the Wix. I've never been able to flex the sides of a Wix, whereas every Motorcraft I've used flexed pretty easily, not a huge confidence builder to me.

I checked out fleetfilter.com, but seems to me the shipping price quoted is high. When I added about 10-12 filters, they quote around $20 for shipping then ground from TX.

Another site sells WIX filters for $.32 more, but the shipping is much less, around $8 for shipping the same. fms.filters.com.

Are the WIX 57502/NAPA GOLD 7502 the exact same filters? I have always bought Napa Gold, which I knew were made by Wix.

I like Wix/Napa Gold and Purolator PureOne.
Don't worry about any warranty issues as someone suggested.

Oil filters aren't tops in my list of important. Use a decent filter and change the oil on a regular basis and it won't be the filter or the oil that kills the engine Fram orange can and made in China filters aren't on my decent list. Making sure that there aren't any intake leaks and the airfilter is sealed properly is #1. And keeping up on maintenenance.

Mustangs are and have been quite the car value.

Why not? I don't have the money or the time to fight Ford if there's a question. I'm glad you do.

My point is that using OEM during the warranty period will give them one less way to try to weasel out of a claim.

Because they can't force you to buy their own filter to maintain warranty. It's an anti-trust law.
Do I have the time or money to fight an automaker regarding a warranty claim caused by a non-stock filter? Never had to, never will. What causes you to think you will have a fight on your hands with Ford? A bad experience? Did they try to weasel out of warranty claim, as you put it? Or are you just anal?
