The description of the 3.6 V6 and its FE ratings in that press release are the first thing that has ever made me drool over the Camaro, even though IMO it's big and ugly. Saw it at the LA auto show .. it's huge!

Not suprised. Rented an 01 convertible with the 200hp 3.8 V6 that got 35 MPG at 75 MPH with either the top down or AC on.

It strikes me that this is the same highway rating as my GF's 150 hp, 2.3 liter Mazda3 which is approximately 800 lbs lighter. Amazing.

Of course the city mileages differ a bit more at 18 vs 22 but still...

The mustang is outdated and overweight. It has been for 15 years.

IMO the Challenger is the best looking of the current retro ponies, but for those of us who would likely be buying the low-end model, the Camaro's V6 is Chevy's ace in the hole.

On a stylistic note....I'm not liking the final headlight design. It looked a lot meaner and aggressive with the HID bulbs peeking out from under the hood. Those textured glass lenses look like [censored].

Heck, I had a 1998 Honda Civic with a 110HP 1.6 liter engine that only got around 29mpg at a steady 75 mph. This thing has triple that horsepower and probably weighs twice as much. Amazing.

This thing is going to be a flop. It is way, way to big and heavy and 'over-styled' to be taken seriously. It will be useless as a daily driver.

The Mustang, while similar in size, 'seems' to me to be much more user-friendly and 'capable' for daily tasks.

Unfortunately it will become a media 'sensation', as GM will most likely go under just as this thing ramps up for production, creating endless stories about how this car 'could have saved GM, but never got the chance...'

It will also become one heck of a collector car - imagine what one of these will be worth in 20 years as 'a last great example of what GM was about...'

This cars story has already been written!

You could get a dodge aspen hybrid if you want something rarer than a lamborghini.

I agree that for me, it is way too big & heavy. However, drivers now are accustomed to big & heavy, look at all the suvs, so that wont hold it back.

I'm really looking forward to the next generation of Mustang engines, hopefully for the 2011 model. This new Camaro handily beats out the current Mustang in like trim on power-to-weight, despite being much heavier (seeing 3700 lbs for the base model makes the Mustang GT seem like a lightweight at around 3500).

The power train and suspension make it into an attractive package but honestly I'd have to go with the Mustang over the Camaro if I were in the market, just because the Camaro looks so ridiculous IMO. If I were set on getting a car this big, I'd seriously look into the Challenger too.

Maybe I'm exaggerating it but I remember being struck by how huge the Camaro looks. I'm looking forward to seeing them on the street, next to other cars for a real size comparison.

Was the parking brake fully released on your Civic ?

I could get that gas mileage on the highway in a 6 speed Vette.

The Challenger is soooo sexy, it makes the Mustang and Camaro look very boring.

Bah! Looking at the "build your own" section on the Camaro site I just noticed that apparently the 29 mpg highway rating is only for the AT model. It says the MT is rated 25 highway!

I'm not as impressed anymore until the actual EPA numbers are out.

It must have been made on a Friday at 4:30PM. I had it ten years and never could get better than 35 mpg out of it no matter what speed I drove. The '89 Civic I had before that could get 40 mpg without even trying, 50+ mpg if you really worked at it.

I can see where GM is already shooting themselves in the foot unless I read the thing wrong.

It seems that you can only get the LS3 in a manual.

My Gm Dealer is only getting 3 of them and they had a list of 100 people who wanted them, and the 3 are already spoken for.

I hope this car does not flop like the GTO that came out a few years ago.

I do not see this car as a daily driver, I don't see many Mustangs out on the road, maybe people are keeping them in there garages, who knows.

I a LOT of Mustangs out on the road where I live. To the point that they have become boring to see. That is one good thing about the Challenger and new Camaro - they will 'liven up' road sightings for a bit!
