This is a Onan 2,500 watt propane generator in my truck camper. I ran this 64 hours while staying at the hospital for my wife's cancer radiation. It was down about half inch below minimum fill line which is my fault for not checking it more frequently but my wife was a top priority and didn't know how much it would use either.

Even being low I still got over 3/4 of a quart out when it calls for 1 quart change. Based on my math it would consume around 3 ounces & put it at the minimum fill line at 32 hours of run time. I put in Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 as its replacement but the oil shown below was Mobil 10w-30 Extended Protection 20k Mileage oil.

  • Particle count of 21/18/13
  • This generator does not use an oil filter
  • Single cylinder air cooled
  • 64 hours on oil & 399 hours total on Generator

I pray she’s doing well. Thanks for the report, generator UOAs aren’t quite as common here. 👍🏻

Well I always heard propane runs cleaner than gasoline and diesel.
It would seem to be true.
I've heard that too. I've had no carburetor starting issues at all. Seems to not "Gum up" as bad as gasoline does when sitting around. I've also heard propane can be more acidic to the oil though. 🤷‍♂️

Propane does not gum up anything, it enters the carb as a gas. What size is your onboard propane tank?

30 lbs. I replaced the tanks & regulator couple years ago since filling the old tanks was getting harder. (safety)

That gen ran 64 hours off of a 30Lb tank?
No, I had to fill it again but I don't recall how many times. I have two 30 lb tanks on the truck camper though. I've never tested out how long it could run on one or both so I don't know.
