Hey all,

I have ran Castrol edge titanium 5w20 almost 17 k miles with a k&n oil filter. I added one qt at 10k. I' very interested to see what the uoa will look like.

I have a 97 ford crown vic with 110k miles on it. It has been pretty good on oil in the past so what the heck, decided to push it one time.

Of the 17k, 10k was run in this Texas 100 plus degree weather. 60percent highway and 40 percent city. It has been in use for right at 10 months. My intake also cracked at about 7k. Didn’t any water leak into the engine to my knowledge so I kept it moving.

I know there are people on here that like to take apart oil filter and analyze them. Any takers? I will mail it to u

Have you done extended OCIs with this car before?

17K miles is sure an extended OCI !

I used the old Castrol Edge in my Corvette for 5800 miles and the TBN was 3.3 My OLM was predicting that I could have gone 8700 miles.

Good Luck with your UOA.

Isn't the recommended OCI 5k? It hasn't been back spec'd to 7.5k has it?

Sounds risky without a UOA.

Its a little risky going that long but the 4.6L is typially pretty easy on oil. I bet the tbn will be very low around ~1.8 (my guessitmate) and wear metals will be right in line.

Change the engine oil and oil filter immediately.

You are not helping anyone, yourself or your vehicle by leaving it in there.

Perhaps do a UOA from an engine oil sample when changing if that will give you peace of mind.

Like you said in your post after a 110k and 15 years why push it once, just keep doing what you are/were doing.

That oil should have been changed out about 5k miles ago. Only a UOA will tell for sure, but your taking a chance on hurting a perfectly good motor.

If you do get a UOA make sure you post it. Will be very interesting to see the results.

Thanks for all of the info! i will have a uoa did on the oil as soon as i change it this week, i also have a sample of 0w30GC THAT WAS IN USE FOR 8K,

Will send off for uoa at the same time and i will post the results

Not too long ago, Castrol told everyone that Gold Edge was a 15,000 miles oil, and the moment they replaced that with Black Edge and Gold Titanium FST, Castrol no longer said it was a 15,000 mile oil.

I don't even think it was worth 15,000 miles to begin with.

Really looking forward to your 2 UOA's.....
