10mm

You opened up a big can of worms here! They are both great guns. Both great calibers. If you are a good shot, you may not need the expanded magazines (Glocks)(not clips...thats something MSNBC and CNN would call them). If you are good with guns 1911's are hard to beat. Stay away from COLT...get a KIMBER. 10mm is a bad [censored] round. May be more expensive to shoot. I have shot both 1911's and Glock's and I say buy both. I have the Glock 32 which is the mid. size frame. I had a compact 45 and gave it to my brother. I did not like it. I prefer the mid. size. If you carry it every day and throw it under the seat...get a Glock. Also, you will spend X2 on a KIMBER 1911 than a Glock....Sorry I am all over the place...just some words to ponder.

Can of worms? Nah. Both great calibers? I was only talking about 10mm.

Stay away from Colt and buy a Kimber? Now that's not good advice at all. My Colts run fine. My friend's Kimbers suck, and I mean bad. I've never had to send back any of my Colts. Some he had to send twice.

I'm also looking at the Fusion Elite Scout FWIW

The Tanfoglio made EAA Witness (a CZ75 based gun) also comes in 10mm. They also make coversion kits to make it shoot 9mm, 40 S&W, 45ACP, and 38 Super.

Some of the old Colt Delta guns had some breakage issues that were reported. The new guns seem to be holding up better and not busting the links.

If you reload and buy the glock, I would look into an aftermarket barrel with a fully supported chamber. There have been issues with high pressure rounds weakening the case and when reloaded can cause a kaboom failure.

Kimber guns used to be super awesome. But it seems they have cut some corners and I have heard from several Kimber owners that are not happy with their guns.

Dan Wesson's RZ-10 might be a good one to look at in a 1911 platform 10mm.

Mostly 40S&W reloaded at top of the charts, with fast powders (Bullseye-type), often with lead bullets (lead and polygonal rifling do not mix, same as H&K).

I shot thousands of reloads thru a 40 cal Glock. Never a problem. Unsupported chamber at 6 o'clock is partially responsible for Glock's reliability---more gradual feeding angle.

Pablo--shoot both, if you can. Glock default sight picture (dot and basket) can be hard to get used to. 3-dot night sights would fix that.

PS Witness, with its slide inside the frame, would very accurate. Glock would be slightly lighter.

There were a lot of 45GAP rounds that went Kaboom as well. The Norma spec 10mm fullbore loads are high pressure and could cause issues.

As far as using non jacketed lead bullets, Glock says not to right in the manual as that can also causse Kabooms. I have a friend who is a trained glock armorer and LEO officer in Richmond CA that replaces all the barrels in his glocks with fully supported chamber barrels in guns he reloads.

I will say I miss my EAA Witness. Had one in 9mm and it was a nice shooting gun.

I have not followed 45GAP much, so thank you, did not know that.
Usually there will be a smiley face on the case, if pressures are approaching the limit. I never go above the 95% of the recommended charge, and stay with medium rate powders, like Universal Clays. Each case is inspected after cleaning (tumbling) before it going thru the re-sizing die.

Again, no problems with a 40.

Norma is hot ammo in general. It is the same as shooting West German surplus 9x19 submachine gun ammo in Ruger LC9. Problems will happen.

Are you into revolvers?

VERY rare (not made anymore) and when they are for sale (used) you either get a loose (ie shot up) one or well used for a lot of money...

I've been looking for one for years. Have not seen anything worth buying for much less than $800-$1000.

And Smith will not warranty one of those with their lifetime since its out of production. They will TRY to work on it but some parts are not available.

But a nice gun!

Not really. Norma designed the 10mm with Col. Cooper. So that is the original loading. Mostly everyone else is just under loading it. So its not like shooting hot subgun ammo in a pistol. I have seen that kill a lot of 9mm and Tokarev pistols, but that was a loading designed for use in long gun. The 10mm was designed for the CZ75 based Bren Ten pistol.

GO GLOCK !

I hav other hanguns but for carry its a GLOCK,I'm a memeber over at glockforum.com we discuss this frequently,

Is this your only handgun ??

IF SO than you should stick with a NATO rnd becuase they will ALWAYS be available, even if ahit gets REAL bad.

Now that is the case. Colt has had some spotty times with quality control, but those days are in the past.

And Kimber, they have gone down hill. So much competition in the 1911 market now, its hard to keep your share of the market, especially if the 1911 is your bread and butter as far as sales like Kimber.

If you really want a 10mm (and, for the record, I do!), I would consider a clean, used S&W 1006 or 1066.

Big, heavy and strong, that's the 3rd gen S&W in 10mm.

I've shot a few rounds out of my kid brother's 1006. Nice gun, great cartridge...a bit of "bark" to it...but worth it!

I'll bet you guys do talk Glock on the Glock forum. I do like my Glock 17L, but most Glocks are just too fat for concealed carry. I have more handguns than fingers now. If the crud gets REAL bad it pays to have a variety of calibers, even some that most others don't have.
