This is my brother's 2007 Honda Accord LX, bought used at 20,440 miles at the Honda dealership. Had the carfax report done and the car was listed as a rental car prior to being sold to the dealership.

Blackstone's comments: Universal averages for wear metals found in oil from this type engine are based on a 6,400 mile oil change interval. At that mark, iron, which tracks with miles of use typically reads 8 ppm. So, we think this oil may have been in use longer than 525 miles. There are no signs of excessive wear or potential problems at 20,965 miles. Silicon was a bit higher than normal so check the air filter to see if it needs replaced. The oil's viscosity was normal and so was filtration (see insolubles). No gas or coolant found. We think this should be a good car for your brother.

My comments: After purchasing the used car, I switched out the oem air filter to a Napa Gold several days prior to sampling.

I think it's safe to assume that the oil has been changed out, at least two, or maybe even three times.

Did you change out the oil that is in there? If so, what oil/wt. did you go with.

I'm glad that the rental company and/or the dealership did the oil changes prior to being sold off to us. Luckily we didn't have to AutoRx it or anything. Yes, we did change out the oil that was in there with Mobil 1 5w-20 and a pureone oil filter. The 2.4L Accords calls for 5w-20 wts so we stuck with that since we also bought the extended bumper-to-bumper warranty on it. I'll try to convince my brother to do another UOA of his vehicle in about another 10k-15k miles or so.

I saw this and I believe it was exactly like this one (made in the USA)...

I've heard that this filter is similar to a Fram.
Prior to removing the honda oem filter off, there were noticeable oil leaks towards the bottom end of the oil filter gasket.

Quite honestly I would throw in a bottle of ARX and do a cleaning/rinse cycle on it. I change the oil and immediately run ARX on all of the used cars I purchase. The second thing I do is add a full bottle of Regane to the first tank of fuel.

Al- Yup, i've heard that these 2.4L's are really good engines. That's why we bought one

Saturn_Fan- After purchasing the car, i inspected inside of the valve cover and it looks almost like new still. So then, i planned on doing the ARX if only the UOA results were abnormal.

But for preventative measures today, i did go ahead and changed out the pcv valve on the brother's honda accord. Will probably do the the coolant and transmission drain/fills later this summer as warmer weather approaches here in TX.

I agree, I don't think your car needs a full ARX cleaning. Just the maintenance should be fine.

The report looks fine. The ARX seems to be a waste of time. I would however, run a few changes of ATF-Z1 (and do it yourself, dont bring it to Vandergriff!!!!)
