This is my gf's 2006 Jetta 2.5 DOHC. This time around I put in PP 5w30, do you guys think I can let her go 11,500 on the PP or stick to 10,000?

Should be able to do 12K with PP. Helix base group III. Should be able to do 12K with Amsoil. Good base and additive package from one of the top additive/base oil corporations. Great report!

What type of oil filter did you use?

not sure that PP 5w30 is exactly a spec oil for this engine.

Sure looks good! AFL is what we will be using in the wife's new rabbit 2.5.

I don't see why a naturally aspirated 2.5 liter needs a 40 weight oil to run properly. If it was the turbo motor I would stick with the 40 weight though...

Looks great. It's now a 30wt so I think PP 5w30 would be ok. It will be nice to see a comparison.

It's what VW recommends.
I know the older 2.0L will burn a ton of oil if you don't use the 5w40 stuff. My gf has a 2004 jetta gl and her oil lasts a lot longer since I've switched over to the castrol 5w40.

Yea too bad both the oil and air filter are tougher to replace than any other car I have worked on. Pablo, do you think the 5w30 PP will be fine or should have I stayed with the 40 weight?

10.5K in that car with PP will be pushing it. Really pushing. Sure we have seen some good 10K OCI's with PP in other engines....but not this engine.

AFL is a fairly thin 40 that shears a bit. PP shears, too, so to what vis at 10K?

Don't think I'm saying that. My comments are based on this car. I would have the same hesitation with Amsoil XL oils here. They might do OK, but it would be pushing it.

IMO I think the 40 is needed for the overly long timing chain setup. I bet it would shear a regular 30 down in no time.
