I agree that mis-representations are damaging, and non-productive. Unfortunately, valid experiences, if they're negative, are too often considered "bashing". There's often very little consideration given to a comment, to understand whether it's a real or made-up experience.

Jiffy Lube does use Fram filters in a pinch. I used to deliver parts for Advance Auto, and we have delivered Fram filters to them before. Sometimes they'd be out of their normal filter, and we'd be out of the pro line filter, and I'd drive a few Frams over there.

Just because we know they don't normally use Fram filters, and just because their inventory system should re-procure a part when necessary, doesn't mean that an odd-ball situation could not have happened in the past.

I've never had any of my vehicles serviced at Jiffy Lube, but our government vehicles go there all the time. Everytime I watch, the service is completed correctly. My wife's childhood friend brought her Focus to Jiffy Lube and they bought her a new engine after hers drained the oil out due to two gaskets on the filter.

Not every experience at a particular retailer will be good, and not every one will be bad. Just as we have to be careful to keep slanderous dialog to a minimum, we must also encourage all to post experiences that they have had or that their friends and neighbors have had, good or bad.

The only thing I can recommend to you is if you can't change your own oil then please take a look at your oil and filter before and after to make sure things were done right.

Dont just sit in the waiting area staring at the TV, drinking their free coffee.

IF you feel that they have done a great job, then simply complement them or leave them 1-2$ tip, that will go a long way with the next customer.

One thing that has bugged me is people bashing Jiffy Lube and other quick lubes for hiring high school kids or younger people. Some of them can be really good, and just want to learn the trade. You have to start somewhere, I started as a heavy line apprentice at the dealer I sell parts at now.

It would be nice if we could get away from talking about Jiffy Lube and back to commenting about getting this engine clean.

I just wanted to chime in with my 2 cents after seeing the pics, Fram Extra Guard Pros I've only seen used at Wal-Mart's TLE. I'm not aware of any other place that uses them, but there may be others.

Really? How long ago? I never remember seeing one and I've lived here in GR my whole life. Then again, I don't go around Wyoming as much as I do Walker/GR.

I highly doubt your girlfriend's friend is being truthful. She wanted to avoid you yelling at her and just getting an oil change. Women can be like that...no offense to them. But most of them don't know jack about cars.

My sister is like that....she is the type who unless I change the oil for her she would let it go 10,000 miles because she simply doesn't like the inconvenience of going to a place to get it done....she tries and avoids anything car related except filling it with gas.

By the way, I believe some Walmart TLE use FRAM filters. Heck, each Walmart usually has a bulk 'house' oil they use for their changes. Whose to say they just used a FRAM that day. Some places may use different filters for different cars.

ALL wal-mart TLE's use FRAM PRO series(never heard of any other places using them) filters, there bulk "house" oil varies by location and is Pennzoil,Quaker State, Castrol, or Valvoline. Not any off brands.

That Fram seemed to hold up pretty good considering the cardboard end caps and high mileage. Maybe the poor construction and filtering ability saved the engine from oil starvation, or from recirculation sludge through the bypass valve. Maybe Fram is perfect for people who never change their oil.

Rergardless of the pics shown what you need to do is get the insides clean. Again I recommend a good engine flushing and replace it with a good synthetic oil.

Your best bet is to keep a close eye on the Toyota cuz your the only one that appears to care.

Remember how sludge occures. To keep mine in check I usually take my Durango for a good drive on the highway for about a hour and a half. Get the engine oil nice and hot to circulate the oil well and absorb moisture and meld any possible sludge accumulating.

Good luck,

Durango

That oil must have been run over 20K+ miles. The 1ZZFE can probably do 10K OCI on any oil without sludging up like that.

I was just at my local WM TLE, and I asked them what filters they used. They said that they pull filters off the shelf, They usually use Supertech, or regular Fram, sometimes Motorcraft, but they have never heard of the Fram Extra Guard PRO.

I just got back from my Wal-Mart.

They use the SuperTechs then Fram.

Asked how often they use the Frams and they said maybe 1 out of 100 and only for special engines that Supertech does not have a filter for.
