Ecotec filter failure - w/ pics

Took this out of my '04 chevy cavalier. The top cap completely came off the rest of the filter. I didn't even notice until I tried to put the new filter in, the plastic top (on the left in the pictures) was still attache to the filter housing cap. I have no idea how long these two parts were...

Does anyone know the factory oil capacity for a '74 BMW 2002? The owner's manual is long gone and I can't find anything online (because I am incompetent). Thanks for any help! Also, this will include a filter change.

    Smith Wesson site down?

The S&W website seems to be down. The one time I need to contact them in a decade, and I just get an error message. It's a little frustrating. Just thought I'd vent.

    M1 Garand question

Hi all. I just cleaned my new (to me) M1 and oiled all the parts. According to the CMP instructions, the trigger and sear (which are one unit) should never be lubricated in any way. They mention this at the END of their instructions. Anyways, I put a light coat of oil (very light) on those...

    2004 Cavalier timing chain question

Hi all. As the title says, I have a 2004 Chevy Cavalier (2.2 liter ecotec engine) with 145k miles. The manual gives no service interval on this chain, and in fact says it's a "lifetime" part. Knowing GM, lifetime means 150k miles. This is an interference engine, and is in perfect shape...

So sorry, newbie question on oil weight

Again, I apologize but couldn't find an answer by searching. Just bought an '81 Moto Guzzi V50 Monza, and the manual recommends 90wt gear oil for the trans, and 140wt for the rear end. Can I safely use 80w90 and 85w140, or should I try and find the straight weight stuff? Thanks so much for any...

    $114/qt Nissan ATF!!

Wow, just came accross this article, and thought I'd bring it up here. Apparantly the Nissan GTR requires a specific ATF, and its crazy expensive. http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/2009/03/2009-nissan-gt-r-bargain-supercar-gets-expensive.html Doesn't this violate the Magnuson-Moss warranty...

    At Home UOA?

I found this article/product review on canadiandriver.com. The test itself apears to be in German and T.U.V. approved. Any thoughts? Maybe someone in Canada should give it a shot, but it looks to me like a glorified blotter test with a DVD...

Get your act together Chevy (venting)

I realize this is super long, please feel free to post random "your post is too long" statement and skip. The car: 2004 Chevy Cavalier. 2 things have happened that make me seriously doubt Chevy's ability to double check. The first I found out come the first oil change. The manual says 4 quarts...

    100,000 miles at 140mph!!!

This article really amazed me. MB is making diesels look really smart. I don't think my 528e can even hit 120, and those e-classes were still probably getting great gas milage. endurance article

    New Mobil at Autozone

Stopped by AZ today to grab some 3.99 GC. They had the mobil 5000 in 10w-40 only, for $1.49. They also had the Mobil 1 Extended Performance listed at $4.99. Again, just one grade(10w-30). They also had several cases of the new stuff that they hadn't unloaded. No idea what grades they were. I'm...
