    Synthetic Oil for Direct injection

I've been wondering about this questions as well, since I have a 2017 Sonata 2.4L that is DI. Maybe it's not a valid assumption, but I would think that a synthetic would not fry itself onto the valve stems like dino oil would. Sort of the same reasoning that affected the Mini Cooper turbos; if...

Torco; a blast from the past

Surprisingly, the Torco quart in the OP is a "cardboard" can and has a few indentations. I'm pretty surprised it has survived the last 40 years or so without getting soggy or leaking.

Torco; a blast from the past

My mom worked as an assistant to Bob Lancaster at Torco Racing Oils in Santa Fe Springs, CA in the 1970's and 80's. She passed away in 2004, but I have kept a quart on the top shelf in my garage that just sort of makes me smile when I think of her. She loved that job, and loved working for the...

3 Reasons to NOT do Extended OCIs

I personally like the thrill of wondering if this oil change will be the one where I drive my wife's Veloster off the ramps, and wonder what dollar amount of damage that will do. Dual-clutch automatics are not fun to put on the ramps when changing oil.

    Magnetic oil drain plugs?

Thanks for all the responses, much appreciated. I have one in my Veloster and one in my 166k mile Sequoia. The one in the sequioia has never attracted any material at all, it totally amazes me. The Hyundai gets just a speck or two on it.

    Magnetic oil drain plugs?

Anybody use them? Maybe I'm using the search function wrong, but I can't find any reference to them in the forums.

Oil recommendations for 2017 Lexus LS460L

While you are still under the 70k powertrain warranty, I'd take it to the closest Lexus dealership, get your free loaner car for a day or two, and not worry about it. Most of the time you are going to get a free car wash as well. Lexus has regularly scheduled maintenance every 5000 miles, but...

Mixing viscosities? Castrol and Valvoline say NO!

Someone please clarify this discussion? If I mix a 5w-30 synthetic with a 5w-20 synthetic, am I going to get a result that is higher than 30 or lower than 5 regardless of the proportion? Done this a couple times in one of my Hyundais. It would not be unusual to top off the 0w-40 in my old 2001...

Using 5W30 in Hyundai/Kia 4 Cylinder Theta Engines

The dealer put 5-30w in my 2017 Sonata when I took it in for it's first oil change here in warm Southern California. Hyundai dealers use a 50/50 blend of dino and synthetic.

    Pennzoil Platinum vs Ultra Platinum

Not sure why choice of oil has anything to do with the Hyundai engine seizure issue. That recall is related to Hyundai not removing debris left behind during the engine assembly process. To qualify for engine replacement you have to....do nothing. No proof of oil changes, no proof of brand or...
