Auto fluid change, push old fluid out

Generally not a fan of the start and pump routine. The few times I have tried it had transmission fluid coming out at a tremendous rate, far faster than I could reasonable manage. I think I pumped out like half a gallon before I could get the key turned off. I really want to avoid running the...

Auto fluid change, push old fluid out

Changing the fluid on our '19 Highlander. Can I use an external pump to force new fluid through the filter path to push out the old fluid in the converter and cooler? Edit: To expand on this. Was planning on a drop and fill, figured there might be a way to push more of the old fluid out while...

NTSB chief - FSD misleading and irresponsible

You "obviously" cannot think this beyond your bias. If you have to use those quantifiers you lack the integrity to have an honest discussion. I grew up in Northern Minnesota, been in every state west of the Mississippi, even spent time in Alaska. Keep your "obviously" garbage to game night. Yet...

NTSB chief - FSD misleading and irresponsible

Oh wait, so now you ARE moving? It seems like you are changing the argument so you can continue to crap on EVs. Regardless of sitting or moving, unless you are driving highway speeds in the snowstorm where you are not moving and EV is going to use LESS energy then a gas vehicle. Batteries...

F-150 Lightning (the new kind) Less Fancy Versions

Give me a break. Jupiter Florida to Key West is 250 miles, that is ONE charging stop for even the low end Lightning. If stopping for ONE 45 minute charge on a 5 hour drive you do, what, twice a year, isn't much. Its even much less when you consider you don't have to stop for GAS every week the...

NTSB chief - FSD misleading and irresponsible

An EV will do that more handily then a gas car will. A modern EV has two to three days of average household energy usage stored in its battery. How long do you think it will sit there keeping a small cabin warm using an efficient heater? Guarantee it will do so longer then a gas vehicle will...

Wrapping screw on oilfilter in heatinsulation to increase warm up in cold climates?

(sigh) this place sometimes. Guy has a high dollar motor and understands that not properly warming the oil up regularly is less then ideal. Seriously folks, this is common knowledge around here. So he thinks insulating the oil filter since he does "short trips" in a cool environment. There...

4L60 or 6L80 when buying used

The folks here have you covered on the reliability aspect. That said, I much prefer driving my 6L80 (granted, pontiac G8) then my 4L60 (2005 truck). It's not just the G8, to me the additional ratios are a nice balance of not too many, not too few. There is always another gear to drop into if I...

Want to bet on my luck? (atf to "save" transmission)

She still lives! There is something that is causing a bigger issue, not sure if it's the cheap MAF or a lazy MAP but you can feel that it doesn't want to lock in like it should. That said, it still lives and drives fine. Im not going to pull a trailer with it, but it keeps limping along.

Want to bet on my luck? (atf to "save" transmission)

Quick update. Kept the MAF unplugged and it started to slip again. In a last ditch effort I installed the servo and adjusted the EPC valve to up line pressure at light load. It holds great in 4th for the moment (only a few miles on it) but the combination of one turn on the EPC and the corvette...

Want to bet on my luck? (atf to "save" transmission)

Ha! Went to install a corvette servo and the cover is stuck solid. I will try again and see if I can get it lose. Thanks for the advice, I'll give it some more effort. Any simple way for a home jobber like myself to monitor line pressure?

Want to bet on my luck? (atf to "save" transmission)

New MAF installed today. Issue is greatly improved however there is still a small slip in 4th. Unplug the MAF and the slip goes away. Unless there is any other advice I'm guessing 4th is done and I'm on the edge of it failing completely. Looks like there is some free tuning software for this...

Want to bet on my luck? (atf to "save" transmission)

Interesting results today. I finally pulled the yellow wire and plugged the rest back in. Sure enough the problems resurfaced. Granted, to a far lesser extent, but the 2-3 flare is back and the soft lockup in 4th is there. Unplug the MAF fully and the transmission is back to perfect. New MAF...

Want to bet on my luck? (atf to "save" transmission)

Understand on the yellow wire and that was my intent after your previous comment. I only unplugged the MAF here as I was at work and did not have access to my tools. I had driven it in hopes the new fluid would offer some differences but within minutes 4th had basically started to disappear and...

Want to bet on my luck? (atf to "save" transmission)

Changed the fluid with little to no change and the issue getting worse by the day. Cleaned the MAF as well with almost zero change. Today, in an act of desperation, I just unplugged the MAF. The transmission is near perfect. Now, my question. With the MAF disconnected there was no code thrown...

    Those with 5.3's weigh in

So lots of folks posting about tunes to turn off the afm. If the parts are there it doesn't make a bit of difference. Heck, the G8 guys have been fighting it for ages to and frequently it's the NON afm lifters that fail. Dont be afraid of a little tick, these engines like to develop a bit of...

    Oil Life Monitor

Generally yes, trust the olm. The GM system has been discussed here many times and it is generally agreed upon that it works well, and a sure bit better then mileage based in most scenarios. In a nutshell the olm will know how many times the engine turned over, how hard you were on the engine...

Want to bet on my luck? (atf to "save" transmission)

Cline Barger, Thank you for the advice. If the time comes I will be in contact, and I appreciate the offer. I don't think the job is beyond my capabilites but like you mention the tooling will be a concern. My garage is reasonably stocked but not towards this. Thanks for the advice everyone!
