What are you working on today?

Interesting, is it SOP to change the oil regularly/every time? Does it absorb moisture from the system? I did notice it made a lot of popping sounds and let some smoke (presumably steam?) out of the vent as soon as I started pumping the system. This stopped and it ran for about 1.5 hours...

New headlights arrived for the '00 Cavalier. O'Reilly only had TYCs and I can't find them listed as CAPA certified so hopefully beam pattern is decent. Typically TYC stuff is decent IME

Cornwell master fuel injection kit. $250 on ebay. Was sold as used and smells of fuel but looks brand spankin' new, so presumably lightly used and well cared for

What are you working on today?

2000 Cavalier came to me with zero charge in the a/c. The only place I could see that was leaking was the high side valve core, but I went ahead and replaced that core, the two seals at the compressor, and both o-rings at the condenser connections. Also the orifice tube, which was pretty...

Oh I agree, although I'm after 1/2". I'd only ever likely use it on oil filter cups (many of which are inexplicably broached for 1/2" dr) and right now I use a super cheap import roto head, which works fine.

Jeep Chrystler ATF +4 vs Valvoline Maxlife

It's going to be bad when AI gets smart enough to easily sound like a real person. I didn't click the article but the quoted CONCLUSION sounds like a robot and thus I'd be distrusting of anything from a page which contained that. Off-topic: makes me think about a sniper movie -- can't...

I presently have zero problems positioning 2-post arms but I've always thought a 4-post would be great for old age when you no longer want to be on your knees on concrete peering under a vehicle. I know 4-posts have some limitations, but if it's that or nothing.....

'99 Vortec power loss and CSFI questions

Thanks for the tip on the Edelmann fitting. I think this issue is closed for me on this vehicle and I had other ways to adapt 16mm, but I decided to grab the Edelmann piece just to have in my arsenal. Cost me $13 on ebay and will be worth 100x that if I ever need it on a Saturday night.....

My SnapOn guy is nice but tracking him down is just too much work. I can't ask him to visit my shop because I wouldn't buy enough. It's just sooooo much easier (and usually cheaper) to order what I need and have it arrive on my door step. I also handle warranty direct with SnapOn.com Like...

(Wet) Aspen and a bit of ponderosa A local tree svc donates it to my non-profit. They use it to heat the house on-site and I heat my shop with it with zero guilt as all of my non-profit's vehicles are maintained in my shop (about 10-12 vehicles, arguably more if you count key volunteers who use...

Playing lumberjack, sorta. The 6.2 isn't thrilled about this much weight, but it's paid for and it gets the job done

Quoting myself, the Subaru relay pliers are SWEET. They drop right on, disengage both tabs, and allow you to just pull the relay with zero drama

    saw horse choices

Wow, the Ace Tool link couldn't be less descriptive if they tried. I want to know sheetmetal gauge because the price is $$$$ for four legs. So, I figured go to the source. Their site is equally unhelpful and the Contact Us has a non-working script. https://greatwhitesawhorse.com/contact/ Hard...

I've had the SKF80A saved as an ebay search for well over a year. Get hits almost every day. They tend to hover around $170 and I just can't ever bring myself to pull the trigger. Someday I'll find the right balance of price and willingness to spend money, so I keep watching ;)

    Subaru purge valve operation

415,700 miles. Not kidding. They claim original engine but I'm VERY skeptical.
