    Subaru purge valve operation

415,700 miles. Not kidding. They claim original engine but I'm VERY skeptical.

I paid way too much in shipping from AU but was insistent on having these hose pliers for larger hoses. Specifically, I was wishing for them when working on heater hoses on an '08 Mountaineer/Explorer for the lines running to the rear. New T&E on right compared to the Lisle et al (many copies...

That's the one I have. It seems to work fine (shrug). I have nothing to compare it to (double shrug)

Fuel Pump for my 2001 F-350

I've had a grudge against Delphi ever since a new one caused the fuel gauge in our old '05 Yukon to read incorrectly. Honestly each time we replace a complete assy we should probably reference the ohm range for the gauge and verify before installing. It's soooo frustrating to have a working...

    Subaru purge valve operation

Well, this time a P1443 which did not go away from previously replacing the vent valve at right rear, and P0442. The owner also complained of hard starts after filling up. I stumbled upon this thread where a new purge valve actually can cure the 1443, and almost surely causes the hard starts...

    Subaru purge valve operation

Ok, O'Reilly showed up around 10a with the SMP. You canNOT blow through it in either direction when not energized. I broke one nipple off the old one, which then became a fun game of extraction with a screw and a heat gun to soften the vac hose. The few videos I found tout this r&r as...

What are you working on today?

New struts on rear of '02 Forester. I just can't bring myself to install cheap quick struts, so I used Sachs. Ordered a pair of TRQ strut mounts on Amazon for $55, and they fit well. I figure rear strut mounts are less important since they don't have a bearing to rotate. I'm often blown away...

Fuel Pump for my 2001 F-350

Is this one of the pumps assys that is almost literally size-for-size on the tank hole? It drives me nuts how Ford does that, they could have increased the hole in the tank by an 1/8"!! Don't know about the Delphi, I'm kind of distrusting of even Delphi these days.

    The Animal Shelters Are Full...

Curious if you asked your vet how they feel about it? If they're like auto repair insurance, I feel sorry for vets and would not blame them for declining to accept it.

    The Animal Shelters Are Full...

Thus far here the shelters are not that way, but "private" rescue organizations can be. In some areas the, say, golden retriever rescue will scour the shelters and scoop up all the Goldens, then they are nearly impossible to adopt from. There's a balance and many places get carried away...

Fuel Pump for my 2001 F-350

You're gonna get a zillion answers but I'd absolutely replace it. I'd use Motorcraft, although it's (obviously) almost surely a different assembly line than what made OEM ~23 years ago. Changing just the pump is an interesting option, if you can know the a-la-carte pump you're using is a...

    Subaru purge valve operation

My neighbor brought me the next gen purge valve from a parts vehicle (he didn't understand I was working on an '02) and you can not blow through it in either direction. Also from at least one video I watched he did not appear to be able to blow thru either port -- although he did not explicitly...

    The Animal Shelters Are Full...

Never understood pure breds. As I recall English royalty tried that....kids wound up with six toes and worse. Not that there's not pure breds who need rescue, too. I volunteer for a wolf/wolf-dog refuge and some of the abuse we see is unspeakable. A big part of our message is that if you...

How do you keep bolts organized when disassembling things

I also use muffin pans. I think it helps to take brake cleaner to them to get rid of the non-stick coating. When new even sharpies don't really work, and I label each compartment with a permanent marker (Markzall, technically)

Awesome looking stuff there! Thanks for the resource. I see they sell a bushing install "press" (and it's only $10), but I just use a socket and 5/16‐18 bolt.

    Subaru purge valve operation

Working on an '02 Forester normally aspirated. Regarding the evap purge valve in the engine bay on passenger side of engine kinda tucked under the intake manifold: should you not be able to blow through it in either direction? I cannot blow through from firewall to intake, which I believe...

What are you working on today?

Never heard of Cunningham Machine -- I'll need to check it out. Sagging is normal. ANY slop in the bushing will translate to sag. If it's not a lot of sag (subjective and vague, I know), you're ok. Also the cheap kit I keep buying appears to have ferrous bushings. Not sure exactly what they...

A bit of two extremes here. Nepros ratchet with its super fancy box (I have to wonder if they couldn't reduce the price a bit if they did away with the lipstick and gloss), and some uber-cheap 1/4" hex bit swivels from AliExpress.

    retractable air hose reel recommendations

Years ago I got several Cox on Warehouse Deals. Never have had time to mount them. Point is, deals can be had. I've never trusted inexpensive Chinesium self-retracting units. We had some in school that died an early death (but yeah, students) and then we were literally tying hoses to lathes so...
