Thanks Sully. Are there any others? Also, does the Amsoil HD 5w-30 tend to thicken like the other Amsoil oils? If so, I am not interested.

Castrol Syntec 0W-30 (GC)
BMW Longlife-01

Mobil1 0W-40 also meets BMW LL but, I don't have the latest spec. available.

Castrol( German) 0W-30
Castrol (Belgium) 5w-40

BMW introduced last summer a new LongLife spec for diesel engines: BMW Longlife-04. Castrol SLX LL04 0W-30 meets the spec. BMW allows this oil in all gas and diesel engines, with the exception of the M motor.

Don't forget the BMW High Performance Synthetic at the dealer. ACEA A3 (hard for a basically grp.III blend 5W-30 to get) BMW LL-01 and most of the other Euro ratings. With a BMWCCA membership, it should work out to around $3.35 a qt. Not bad stuff either.

From what I've seen....

LL-98: A3 rated 5-40 synth.

LL-00: A3 rated 5-30 synth.

LL-02: A3 rated 0-30 synth.

LL-04: A3 rated 0-40 synth.

I guess the answer to that varies with engine condition,OCI and a host of other factors. I spoke with Darren (Tech Dept.) at Amsoil today on this very subject. The S3000 is an excellent oil. Will it thicken out of grade for a given application and OCI? You'll just have to try it and see how it performs in your vehicle. I'm going to.

The regular Castrol Syntec 0w-30 is BMW Long life rated as well.

Is the regular Castrol Syntec 0w-30 good oil?

The specs. you see on Castrol's we-site is for GC. The old stocks do not meet these specs!!

The old North American 0W-30 is not the same at all, but there still seems to be some of the old stuff out there, so beware.

Is this actually "Approve by/for..." or "Meets the spec of..."

Good question, maybe one of our Amsoil reps can clarify.
