I am trying to find out what lubricant GM 7403021 is equivilent to? It is listed in the manual for the differential of a 1978 Bombardier BR 100 thanks Rob

Welcome to the forum.

I don't think you will find your answer here. This is for auto light truck drive trains. You could try calling Amsoil tech support to see what they recommend?

Then you could reference it back to an on the shelf product.

I assume this is a snowmobile ?

Maybe one of these would get better results.

Lawn equip, M/c's, Boats,Aviation Threads

Motorcycles and Motorcycle Lubrication

Boat/PWC Lubrication

Lawn Mower and Small Engine

Aviation

GM Part number 7403021 is a GL-5 gear lube. Use AMSOIL 75W90 or 80W90 Gear lube.

I would use Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 If it's a little worn you could step up to Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-110, even in the frigid cold because I'm sure originally in 1978 that wasn't a GM synthetic fluid.

Not till 1999 did GM start to recommend and install synthetic gear lubes in the trucks. I can recall the Chevy dealer back in 1977 balking at putting it in my 77 Monte Carlo LS Diff. I insisted they install if for me and they begrudgingly did. I ordered a new 1977 Monte Carlo with Posi and used the Amsoil synthetic 80W-90 in it from new to well over 100,000 miles. The dealer had changed my gl 2x and installed the LSD additive but the noise always came back within a 1000 mile or so. Thats when I found the Synthetic and had then install it. I never had the noise ever again in the 5 yrs I had the car.
