Although I just lurrrv these big marine diesels scale , I wonder why the marine industry just doesn't use steam or jet turbines !!! Surely less maintenance and running cost ??!!

They are using turbine engines to drive generators that drive electical propulsion systems in as small as supply ships and mega yachts. However, propulsion system is usually dictated by the region that the ship is mainly used in and the ports you visit or can get to.

The article says at it's most efficient setting it burns 1660 gallons per hour. And I thought my jet ski was bad.
