I might try some AFE in 0W30, or 5W30 if no 0W30. I *think* 30 is a bit more quiet. I know 5W will be ok, but next oil change on either vehicle will see Jan/Feb temps, which can be -10F or colder--so I'd rather have 0W.

Like who, specifically? And run well with no oil consumption? Top end won't last either way... My MB wagon has 290k on it, doesn't burn a drop of oil between changes.

Go look at short blocks on eBay ... You can see the sleeves in place.
Yes, German makes it is not common, others do it.
Nothing wrong with an aluminum piston in an iron sleeve ...
(Some pistons are coated too)

Only M1 oil I have ever run was AFE 0W-20 in my Tribute during a winter run.

Cold start-up was amazing - an honest -25 to -30C air temps, and the vehicle started like a warm summer day. NO 'drag' from thick oil at all, just effortless starting. Really impressed me.

Yes, I mean the engines.

Not me. Just plain old cheap Walmart Supertech. No reason to waste money on "fake synthetic" motor oil you will throw out.
