which loaner ball joint press

Press in is very common on many cars including Euro, some MB, BMW, Porsche, PSA, Opel, Fiat, etc also use them. VW and Japanese are primarily bolt ins or riveted.

I used an AutoZone ball joint press one and it worked OK. I froze the new ball joints for a few hours to "shrink" the metal so the pressing in was drama free.

Use anti-seize on the surfaces before you press the ball joints in. They tend to press straight and good with lube.

We had to press new ball joints in a Ford Ranger and one of the [censored] things was started crooked, we used the tool and it finally took.

The ball press tool is not cheap if you break it, and it was close to breaking, we got lucky.

You bring up a good point. Some of these loaner tools are not the best quality and are overpriced. I would ask about how the tool warranty works if it beaks before renting it.
