Yes, that's what I said. I have no financial interest in anything you choose, and am solely recommending what I think is best here.

Additionally, were I concerned with cold start TDI performance, focusing on oil (notwithstanding proper viscosity selection) would be well down on the list...

Well, already have Frostheater, use anti-gelling agents ( when needed) , and running the highest cca /ah battery I could
find. I don't put a charge on the battery normally unless I feel something is up. I guess I relying the alternator to do its job.

I've ran delo 400 15w-40 through out the years ( mainly in my truck when the price was right) and have seen the new 5w-40 on the shelf but never bought it.

Would you care to touch on why you think delo is a better choice? ........ Also Thanks for the advice and help

Here are the 13 Diesel Oils that were tested. And they are ranked in the order of their “Load Carrying Capacity/Film Strength” values:

1. RED LINE, 15W40 Diesel Oil, synthetic, API CJ-4/CI-4 PLUS/CI-4/CF/CH-4/CF-4/SM/SL/SH/EO-O
“Load Carrying Capacity/Film Strength” = 85,663 psi
zinc = 1615 ppm
phos = 1551 ppm
moly = 173 ppm
total detergent/dispersant/anti-deposit build-up/anti-sludge = 2999 ppm
TBN = 8.3
The onset of thermal breakdown is approximately 285*

So, their component quantities had no chance of being mixed up. This new Rotella’s wear protection capability is just slightly BETTER than the OLD Rotella. Therefore, the new Rotella is NOT the junk some have claimed.

Does not include Amsoil or JD Oil. But does include Delo and Rotella. These are just extreme wear tests and do not include cold flow, etc. But Delo generally ranks higher than Rotella in testing I have see. Maybe not by much, but something.

I'm not a 540 RAT fan boy. But since his testing is the same a repeatable for him and his test rig, I'll by the results for extreme pressure wear resistance.

I dunno if these VW TDI engines have cam/lifter issues or not... But, if they do, the results above might be worth considering ...

How many trials did he conduct, and did he ever publish an error analysis? I'm guessing no, since I don't believe film strength measurement with five significant figures and a resolution of +/- 0.001%.
