or the exhaust pipe cutter. I have an old exhaust cutter from clearance that was missing a wheel, and now I lost another one of the wheels, and it;s hard to cut used filters now.

HF used to have another pipe cutter called the #3 Pipe Cutter that was big enough to cut most oil filters, but that has since been discontinued.

They have a #2 pipe cutter, but it's too small for oil filters. Here is a link to the #2 pipe cutter. The #3 that has been discontinued looks just like that #2 cutter.

So, what are some good alternatives?

HF discontinued the exhaust cutter ... that sucks.

These look about the same:

Do any parts stores have exhaust cutters?

Performance Tool, which is carried by Oreillys and AAP, for example is just a relabeled HF Pittsburgh tool.

Yep, closed them out awhile back. Might be a few odd ones still hanging at some HF's, but otherwise gone. I had read here though that the newer made in China HF cutters had poor construction quality and fell apart easily. No so with my made in Taiwan HF exhaust cutter shown below, still looks new after many dissections and it came with it's own red case.

Here's the thread where I talked about it back in 2010, shortly after purchase. For ~$15, I've gotten my money's worth. SuperBusa seemed to like it ok too.

As for the HF #3 cutter, years ago a member tried it and said it crushed the can, more than cut it open.

And Lisle cut off tools linked say only to 2.5" max, whereas the HF cutter goes to ~3.25" and cut open even the popular 3614/10241 size.

The Summit cutter linked above is fair to ok, but filters in the 3" or less diameter range hit the guide wheel bar instead of the wheels as shown in this thread. That said, it will still cut but not the best design. A member made one with retro fit wheels which looked good. If interested in the Summit, Jegs has the same cutter for the same price but with shipping and handling included.

If money is no object, the Longacre filter cutter linked here is the creme dela creme imo. But too rich for my blood just to cut open a filter.

Is Exhaust cutoff tool useful for oil filters?
Or I should choose oil filter cutter (the same price)?
