I have a new to me 2001 Ford Expedition XLT with the 2V 5.4L and 4R100 transmission. It has 85k miles on it and has seen regular maintenance its whole life. It is time to replace the transmission fluid and I could use some recommendations.

I am usually a fan of Amsoil and they recommend either Torque-Drive or Signature Series Multi-Vehicle. Can anyone offer pro's or con's to either?

The Torque-Drive is MERCON rated and used in heavy duty Allison transmissions while the Signature Series is MERCON V....if any of that matters.

I'd appreciate your input! Thanks!

In 2001 the 4R100 required MERCON, and Torque-Drive is spec'd for MERCON.

The SS is MERCON V which is back-compatible with MERCON.

Certifications aside, is one better than the other?

Go to the stealer and get what they use its tried and tested and usually not too expensive -Shop around go to both ford and Lincoln dealers they all make up prices but they know if the price is too high people dont go there anymore

Thanks for the good advice guys! I'm leaning towards the SS.

The goal is synthetic for longer life and hopefully improved fuel economy.
