New Prestone Coolant? Pics

I have seen it, and what really got my attention was that there is no 2-EH, and states that it uses proprietary inhibitors.

Although it may be okay to use in Dexcool apps, I will now only use actual Dexcool. In the past I used Prestone AM/AM because it used 2-EH, and costs a few dollars less than coolant that just says Dexcool.

Is it still green? I dig my hot pink DEX-COOL.

Does it mention not using 2-EHA?

The new jug doesn't show 2eha as the previous jug did but 'imo' that could mean one of two things. Prestone no longer uses 2eha in the AM/M, OR they are no longer including it on the jug listing for some reason. I could think of a reason or two why that would be either way, but they would be the same reasons.

I think only Prestone knows the answer to the 2eha question. Some other Dexclones don't list all ingredients including 2eha on the container. Without more information, I'm not completely convinced 2eha has been completely eliminated from the new formula. But either way, it is an interesting development.

Wonder what the "cor-guard" inhibitors are. Or are they strictly "proprietary"?

I'm not convinced they no longer use 2-EHA either.

I remember reading (years ago) that 2-EHA is very effective and CHEAP.
Since most car makers have changed their gasket materials to eliminate the 'plasticing' effects of 2-EHA , I doubt the coolant makers will change their formulas...

I won't use it, as it doesn't appear to be motorcycle friendly.... unlike Peak Long Life, which specifically mentions being motorcycle compatible.

And the Prestone website didn't help any, as it hasn't been updated yet.

Anyone find the cor-guard patent?

For engines under 100 Horsepower, Use Prestone All Makes/Models
For engine over 100 Horsepower, Use Peak Global Lifetime

Interesting. This has my curiosity raised. I went to Prestone.com to learn more, but they haven't updated their website to include this new product. That's disappointing.

'At this point with no more information', I'm leaning to it still containing it, just no longer on the jug. I note it still lists the same two first ingredients of the previous jug, ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol then it now says "proprietary." The last could be anything, but the first is what many owners manuals say to look for, but OM's tend to be very vague about AF type.

On the Peak website, Peak Global Lifetime OAT goes out of their way to say "non 2-EH formula".

Have to wait and see what Prestone does, but I'll assume it still has 2eha until it says otherwise.

I haven't been paying attention to Prestone lately...

What's the Prime by Prestone line? Something different, or just another marketing angle for the same old stuff?

Hi,
I work at Prestone as the Training director. This product is a direct result of millions of miles of fleet testing to create the best possible coolant for all modern cars and motorcycles. It has shown virtually no wear in dozens of 120k fleet tests. The Core Guard inhibitors have 17 patents so this product cannot be duplicated by any other AF manufacturer. PEAK? a 22 yr old product from a company with zero OE business. Prestone is the OE supplier for three of the four largest car companies in the world. The product had to be changed when most radiator and heater core makers started using a process called CAB brazing to assemble the cores and plastic tanks. Current coolants in the market have issues with the residue left after this process. The older Prestone formula was launched in 2002 so it has been in the market for 13 yrs. I welcome your questions at [email protected] and will try to get back to this thread as soon as I can,

Peak Global Lifetime is a 22 year old product? I highly doubt it. I also ask you to prove that claim with independent citings/links posted to this board so all who frequent it can confirm that claim. Also Peak/Old World makes more than one AF product, so being specific would be important imo.

PGL, a non 2eha formula OAT is a very well respected product on this board and has been and is being used successfully by many members here.

I understand that you work for UCI-Fram and it's your job to promote their products and make them appear superior. But 'imo', your criticizing competitors in this forum and attempting to belittle their products is a poor tactic.

Prestone AM/M has been a 2eha based OAT AF. The only question I have is, is the newer Prestone still a 2eha based product? The fact that unlike Peak Global, it doesn't specifically say non 2eha leads me believe that it is.

Since Preseone has an OEM presence, why push a one-size-fits-none coolant instead of making sure that the proper product range for today's vehicles is maintained and stocked by distributors? And that the labels clearly indicate the chemistry family in big letters on the front label? Of the big players, it seems to me that only Zerex actually tries to do this, and doesn't do all that great a job because they don't seem to pursue relationships with retailers to guarantee the shelf space required. Prestone (like Fram) has a great presence in stores, but unfortunately the bulk of the shelf space is the one "universal" product.
