20k miles on the filter with 4 oil changes each at 5k miles. (All PYB)

2007 Ford Expedition 110k to 130k.

Beautiful.

We've broken the 3k mile oil change barrier, now we need to work on the multiple OCI per quality filter barrier.

It almost looks like you filled a brand new filter with used oil and cut it open. You must have a very clean engine.

I cut open filters all the time and frequently on one OCI see very little light when the pleats are pulled out and stretched flat and held up to a lamp. I won't run them multiple OCIs.

If you run a screw into one of the input holes then drain the filter out that low spot for a while, it should have less oil to spill out when you cut it open. Today I changed the oil on a 1997 Escort cold, it had sat all night. I drained the filter and when I cut it open, no oil came out the cut, and it was quite well drained considering it was drained cold, not hot.

That's very scientific.

I see where Purolator has the PSL advertised as a 10k filter. Also that it has an excellent 27g holding capacity. Based on other Purolator's conservative/cya recommendations, I'd say it's a ~15k mi. oil filter. The PSL looks good here.

Good to see that you are enlightened enough to understand that factors like a filter's holding capacity and engine maintenance can determine how far a filter can be used. Having an open mind to learning and then being able to apply that learning to the real world is a good thing.

Sadly, as a recent posted 3k synthetic oci UOA shows, some (though in the Bitog minority) still haven't gotten past the first. Not to mention the latter.

Thanks for the pics.

Though we are not supposed to talk to Umibozu lest he capsize our ship, since I am landlocked I will say great pics, clear thinking and thanks for pushing the envelope to 20K for us, you Steely Eyed Missile Man! The filter obviously held up well. The Puro is a nicely made filter and one shouldn't have any qualms about using it.

Hard or impossible to tell by looking, or worse yet looking at pics, but I will go against the masses here and say that filter media looks fairly loaded to me. I certainly would not run it any farther that's for sure.

Construction is obviously NOT an issue though.

I don't know why you would think it is scientific. But if you are being sarcastic, please note that I never claimed it to be scientific. It is one thing I can look at and at least stay on the conservative side of not overusing the filter.

There was less junk in his than in the Ultra I ran for 8K in the xB!

It's a full-flow oil filter. You can use them all the way up to bypass with maximum filtration assuming filter construction is permitting.
