Odd ?- PureOne vs. Purolator Classic & 5w20

Weird but all the articles about million mile cars seem to have the oil changed at a quick lube place with the cheapest filter and bulk oil. Unless the oil filter breaks apart and damages your engine the oil filters restriction or filtering ability running 5,000 mile oil change intervals will not make a bit of difference neither will the oil. The airfilter and the seal of the intake will make a difference. The flow vs filtration issue is internet blather by those that think they know. Going by the numbers you car will be wrecked die from a cooling system failure taken to a wrecking yard because the $4,000 trans rebuild costs more than the car is worth etc. Dino oil and a decent filter and 5,000 mile [conservative] dino oil changes will let you engine live as long as it can live and syn oils and top filters at 10,00 mile [consertive] oil changes will let your engine live as long as it is going to live. What about your trannie oil etc. I spent most of my working life doing fleet vehicle repairs and if you took 300 of the exact same vehicles over a period of time some engines would wear out early or have some kind of issue and most would life what would be considered running great at fleet turn in time and some would seemingly want to run forever.

Even if the Classic does flows better, it can't be much better due to only a 2% decrease in efficiency. If a Classic in the same size (L14006) was flow tested and compared to the PureOne PL14006 flow curve, it would probably be almost identical.

If the Classic does flow better, your car will never really know the difference as compared to the already good flow characteristics of the PureOne as shown by the flow data linked above.

As long as the oil pump is operating below its max pressure output point, the engine is still getting the same amount of oil volume from the positive displacement oil pump regardless of how restrictive the filter is. The restrictiveness of an oil filter only shows up when the oil pump is operating at max pressure (ie, when the pump hits the pressure relief mode).

But having your oil analyzed and looking at the silicon number and if its high then other wear metal numbers will give one an idea as to the cleanliness of air going into your engine.
