I have a 1988 Toyota Celica that I bought brand new.
I'm getting older, and only put about 1000 miles a year on it these days.
The owner's manual calls for 10W-40 above 32F, and 5W-30 below 32F. Since I only drive it in the summer, I've been using 10W-40 castrol dino oil.
I'm wondering if it would be OK to use 5W-30 Castrol dino oil during the summer.
The reason I ask is my primary vehicle uses 5W-30 year round, and I have quite a lot on hand; several cases of 24 quarts.
I know oil has improved quite a bit over the last 20 years.
The Celica has a VERY small oil leak I haven't been able to trace. I find oil stains in the newspaper under the car about the size of a quarter: a few drops, at most.
I've never seen any loss on the dipstick...in the 1000 miles I drive it each summer.
It would just make it a little easier for me f I could use the 5W-30 oil I have on hand, so I don't have to buy 4 quarts of 10W-40 every fall, to change the oil in the Celica.
Thanks guys!
