I know that basic formula but wasn't there a way to do it without cutting the media off the end caps, Like length of one side pleat times 2, times how many pleats there are, times height of filter media?

I have used this filter quite a bit actually. It came as factory equipment on many GM v8 and 6 cyl vehicles starting in 2007 including the popular 4.8l and 5.3. I currently have a case of the AC Delco version and a case of the PH48 Champ Labs version. Both of these are non ecore. In fact I have never found an AC Delco on the store shelf with the ecore construction. I have however found the supertech version in ecore. Not sure about STP version.

These I have inspected are slightly heavy to the feel. Thick base plates, nitrile ADBV and bypass valve in the end. The element itself is cellulose with a metal inner tube and glued metal end caps. An excellent filter for about 3.79 here at WM.

I have always had good oil pressure and no leaks.
