1971 VW Bus, 1600cc, junk yard engine gone thru to include a Web-Cams regrind cam/lifters, dual carbs, extractor exhaust, 1 1/2 quart sump, full flow filter and a by-pass filter. Total capacity is now 7 quarts (stock was 3 qts).
Aug 2010- Started up engine on ground to break in cam with Shell Rotella 30wt, for 20 mins. Drained oil and inspected Oberg filter, all ok. Poured oil back into engine as this 30wt is hard to find( Rotella 30wt T1 lost its gas engine rating). Ran engine more on ground. Installed engine in Bus with out Oberg. Fabbed a cheapo plate to support Purolator L39001 full flow and a Baldwin B164 by-pass filter. Drove Bus for approx 1500 miles.
Oct 2010- 1st oil change. Shell Rotella T 15W-40wt, CI-4+, 7 quarts. Purolator L39001 and Baldwin B164.
