**** Yea.... I did my Son's 1999 Altima and it did NOT come from factory with the optional cabin air filter. So I did the cut the slot out deal so I could install the filters. Pain in the buns!!
But, at least it will be easier next time.

Thanks, I'm doing that this weekend on my wife's Altima. She just got back from the dealer and they soaked her for an alignment that was certainly not needed.
 
I was once a young apprentice working at a Euro shop in town and I was given a cabin filter to do on a newer C-class Benz.

I'd say my back was pretty stiff for the next few days; bear in mind I'm still a very young guy. You've basically gotta make yourself a human pretzel and squeeze beneath the dashboard while fiddling with getting it in there just right. Screw that.
