Due to the power given the commoners and the reduction of the elite's power structure. I, the Mighty Obbop, doth truly believe that steps will be undertaken to reduce or eliminate the Web's ability to allow the masses to bypass the elite-owned mass media.

Over time, it has become obvious to me just how much vital info was not passed, and is not passed today, to the commoners via all the elite-owned media types.

For examplt, the local newspaper never casts illegals in a negative light. In fact, seldom is illegality mentioned while a newspaper in another state will mention illegality.

Many many many other "errors of omission."

Look at how the Hearst newspaper chain was instrumental in whipping up public sentiment to declare war against Spain.

Some sage wrote that freedom of the press is a wonderful thing, for those that can afford the presses.

Stop and think. Look at the incredible amount of "power" the Web gives us common folks.

Despite the whining by the elites and their lackeys regarding the misinformation and inaccurate info on the Web.... well.... let the reader beware. Besides, the negatives foisted upon Web content can also be applied to the "mainstream" media!!!!!!

Yes, citizens, I fully expect some sort of curtailment to reduce the commoner's access to the amazing amount of power at our hands.

Whether the curtailment is based upon "homeland defense" or protecting the kiddies from "bad" stuff.... well... just wait and see.

I expect the elites to utilize some form of monetery coersion to greatly reduce commoner's access. Whatever method used, I am convinced the elite class holds a buring desire to shove the common citizenry back down to their proper place.

Just wait and see. I am CONVINCED such measures will arise in the future.

Never happen. We couldn't even implement some of the simpler anti-spam countermeasures that were on the table not long ago (too great an undertaking they said). Yet, they think they're going to just wipe the internet off the map and start over? Please...

There was recently an unknown group of people who tried on their own to wipe out the internet. They tried to take out 13 key computers.

The internet has become something of a dark place (with bright places here and there). Maybe if those unknown terrorists had been successful it actually would be a good thing. The internet would have come back inspite of them but people would learn to place some value on the internet and maybe even the destroyers might be forced to reflect a little bit.

It is nice that the internet is the place where you can find a free exchange of ideas. But if things keep getting worse on the internet with all of the cybercriminals it might be necessary to have a lot more regulation. Some people have already talked about a separate internet where a person or company would have to pay to get on and there would be much stronger rules and regulations.

The evil people are making it necessary to bring sheriffs to the town.

actually, wiping out the internet is easy. Just login to every server on the 'net as root then type:
cd /
rm -R

Done.

i like the internet almost exactly the way it is. right now i can go on google and search for anything i want to. no one can censor me and i am free to decide what i do and do not want to do with my online time. the current internet empowers people with knowledge they would normally not have. the current world without internet (cable tv and newspaper) aim to dumb the average person down.

the only real drawbacks of the current internet is the adversiting, spam, virus, spyware and "bad things" (extreme porn, drugs, illegal things shown online) but nearly all of those items could be stopped if we just decided enough is enough and drove up to those houses for which these thigns come from and wreck up the place and fine the owner huge ammounts of money or jail time.
