I just updated my Samsung Captivate to Gingerbread 2.3.5 and have rooted it.
So far it seems pretty sweet. We'll see how it goes. It's been a pretty good phone hardware wise. Sometimes it seems to lag. Removing some of the AT&T bloatware, which you can do after rooting it has helped.
