Had my Discover card since the 90s. Several months ago it got stolen for a lack of a better word. I believe it was at a gas station. That aside Discover said it would take two weeks to get a new card. In the old days they would overnight you one.

Discover said I could continue to use it on my many apps as I always have.

I did get a new card but never activated it. Seems like a good deal as if it gets hacked again it isn't any good to them because even I can't use it online or in the store only on me older apps.

It's good until late 2026...
Anybody else doing this???

I seem to recall that when I have received new credit cards, the paperwork states that the new card has to be activated within a certain time limit. If it isn't, it can no longer be activated.

So really, what you are doing is putting yourself in a position where your current card may be turned off, and the new card, that you think you are saving for when you want to use it, will also be unusable.

I talked to them early on and they say the expiration date is the cards.
They know it's in my possession.
No big deal to them.

I left an AMEX card behind at a restaurant. Discovered it early the next morning, got online with AMEX. They immediately canceled my card and sent another one through the mail which took a number of days to arrive.

I don’t understand how YOU can use the old stolen card….and the thief CAN NOT?
Pretty simple. I can't use it in a store or a gas station or a new online vendor either it's toast.
But the apps I have used it on for years I can still use only.
I can not download a new app and use it either.
I'm sure electronically they have it figured out.
I had no idea it was stolen and they called me. That tells me they were aware of other breaches too.
It got stolen twice in 3 months and both times they told me. So I'm fine with the way it is now.
In the end I will just dump it altogether.
This is a new feature because prior once the card was compromised it quit working period.

I wouldn't have a credit card that didn't allow me 100% free rein on new purchases and new apps.

In your case, I would get all the old apps still on that once stolen card switched over to your other credit card - then order a new card from a different bank and be done with Discover, which I've never been fond-of.

I currently use two credit cards...... one Mastercard and one Visa. Both give me excellent return (cash back allowances). I can use either one anywhere - anytime. Otherwise, if a card holder tries to limit me on my spending choices, I say Adios to them.

Is this a new policy? I've had a discover card for several years and they overnighted me a new card. However I had 6 grand charged to my card, and it went through.it was a go fund me charge. Yet they declined a $12 order from Wendy's. Still trying to wrap my head around that one.

It appears so as new cards take 2 weeks to get now. It wasn't this way before. When your card got stolen it was shut down instantly.
I like the way it is now and people think I'm getting the wrong end of the stick and I'm not.

I get tired of filling out my various apps every time so jerk rips off my card.
I am a creature of habit with the discover card so they know who's doing what.

B of A is the one. When I drove to Florida I stopped at 3 gas stations along the way and they shut down my card on the third one.
They told me I need to inform them when I travel...yes they did...lol

The gal at discover got embarrassed as she was asking me
about the charges on my card.
She read off a $900 charge and I said what is that for? She locked up...an Escort service...uh no poor Jimmy didn't get any of that...
Nuts..

You can't mention Wendy's or Nissan here.. You know the rules...

@KCJeep

This looks like another GTL thread.
You still owe me $55
I’ll try to work it into my next payday loan, but no promises. Pretty sure I’m close to hitting it big on scratch off lotto tickets though, so maybe your ship will come in early after all.
