Synthetic oil for a classic Mustang

I don't know for sure that Mobil 1 15w50 is still 1300ppm phosphorus, but that would be my choice if it is. It's a fairly light 50wt anyway and most Walmarts still stock it in 5qt jugs.

ATK does not just reman engines, they build engines using their own formula. So depending on what the OP bought for power rating, it could be mild or wild... We need that info to really tell what's going on here...

As I said, call ATK and ask them ... I'll bet somebody a Hoaggie that it'll be Brad-Penn.. But we'll see if the Op will make the call?

According to Mobil, their nominal zinc levels are:
M1 AFE = 750 ppm
M1 regular & M1 EP & M1 ESP = 900 ppm
M1 HM & M1 (euro) 0W-40 & M1 5W-50 = 1100 ppm
M1 TDT 5W-40 = 1250 ppm (truck)
M1 4T 10W-40 = 1300 ppm (bike)
M1 15W-50 = 1300 ppm
M1 V-Twin 20W-50 = 1750 ppm (bike)

I would be looking at 1100ppm Zn and up.

Any brand name 10W30 should work just fine. Stick with one brand.

I had a Mustang with a 351 and used Castrol GTX 10W30. I had no issues.

Yep now knowing those numbers 5w40 and 15w50 would be my first choices.

I hang around lots of members of the Mustang owners group and most of the ones i see and talk with dont run full syn in their pride and joy. I spent yesterday with a friend who is rebuilding a 66 coupe with 289 2bl ....he started it up yesterday and drove around a few miles to see how the AC is working. I asked him what oil he uses the most and for break in oil its PYB 10w -40 ......after that he uses Pennzoil 10w 40 semi syn. He claims its works well in old stangs were the clearance in valves and piston is pretty big compared to the stuff today and a thicker oil is needed....and Pennzoil semi has not let him down. He said before the syn craze he used Castrol GTX for many years.

We sell alot of Brad Penn products here with zero issues. We build alot of muscle car engines and reccomend same, Mobil one 15w,50, or valvoline vr oils, are good also

Any decent synthetic or other oil will be fine and you can augment it as needed by adding some ZDDPMAX or ZDDPlus.
