Cool Thanks

so it looks like REGULAR Valvoline SynPower works just fine in a BMW. . . and since NAPA Synthetic is a clone, hmmmm. . . . . .

No.
Valvoline does offer a Euro Synpower 5W-30 which does meet BMW's requirements, but the stuff on the shelf at Walmart isn't it.
Synpower 5W-40 meets BMW's oil specs, I believe, and if there is a NAPA branded version of it, it should be okay for your BMW CUV.
I'd stick with the cheap enough M1 0W-40 myself.

I think the Euro Synpower you reference is the Synpower MST or HST. It is there in the guide as well. But regular Synpower is there and it appears kosher.

Didn't VW make this same mistake? Their awful 1.8T from the Mk4 VW's approved list mistakenly included regular Synpower 5w30 when really only the MST meets the standards. I think they updated the list in a TSB.
