this car is an "oil burner". I checked the oil level yesterday for the first time at 600 miles and it was in the middle of the safe range (Below full and above add).

I wish I had baselined it when new to see if it was at the full line when new, but I did not.

Should I add oil to the full line or check it again next week to see if the level drops from its present location?

I previously had a Forester that required periodic topping of oil during extended drain intervals.

In order to know where your full mark is on the dipstick, change the oil and filter - put in the correct amount in your owners manual, then see where the oil mark ends on your dipstick.

That will be your full mark for future reference.

I am at 1000 miles and the level seems to be holding well at the Full mark. I must have not been on even ground when I observed a reading in the middle. It has been at full the last two times I checked it. I feel relatively confident that this vehicle will not be an oil eater.
