Also, call your insurance company. It's not a pleasant surprise to purchase a vehicle and then find out your insurer refuses to write policies for salvage/prior salvage vehicles. I once worked for a large insurer and existing policy holders who wanted liability coverages (forget coll/comp) for salvage vehicles were referred to lesser-known, marginal companies (ie, Dairyland, Vern Fonk...places that specialize in SR-22 and other nightmare situations).
In this regard, state titling & registration might be the minor issue when it comes to owning a salvaged vehicle.
