Came out of my daughters 98 Contour 2.0L

can looks real clean. This engine is in very good condition, runs good no smoke no oil burning.

this filter has 2 valves. One tan phenolic spring valve on the bottom of the cartridge. One odd looking one in the top inside the cartridge. Why 2 valves? Why have the bottom one? I had read this top one is a bypass valve to keep sludge from getting to oil gallery if the relief valve were to open. But the can is on its side mounted on the engine. And then there is the other valve(not shown) in its bottom base end.

the large central one is definitely an anti drain back valve.
I though that is what the red silicone ring was for.

Gah, I can't seem to find the thread that has someone using a LARGE oversized P1 that would also fit my Honda Civic. This just reminded me I want to try it eventually.
