I was looking the new Sentra, that only comes with a MRA8DE 1.8L engine. A few posts in this thread talk about the 1.8L in the Versa, which is the MR18DE, has problems. Is the MRA8DE any better?

Also I know someone looking at Altimas. I know the VQ is great, but they only want a 4cyl car. The 2.5L has a history of problems. Is current 2.5L much better?

The QR25 that Nissan uses in their altima and rogue is an excellent reliable if a little coarse engine. Great gas mileage too. And Nissan hasn't even made a direct injection version of it so there is still room for the power/efficiency to grow. Mom's 2007 altima 2.5s easily pulls over 32 mpg on the hwy. Haven't heard anything bad related to the powerplant lately. They do have Crankshaft Position sensors that occassionally go bad. Not a terribly expensive fix.
